I once saw a woman driving a beautiful brand new ESV back right into a metal cart receptical at a Target. She swung her head back like OMG what did I hit!? :suspect:
Are there no backup camera or audible parking sensors in a new Escalade ESV?

I think a hybrid is a good idea, but I don't think it needs the 5.3, which would put it too closely in competition with the 6.0L hybrid in the Escalade. A 3.6 DI hybrid would definitely get the job done and have PLENTY of power.
This Crossover and the Escalade are really for two different types of buyers - but if one stole from the other - I don't see that to be a problem. As long as the customer is buying a Cadillac - what difference does it make? Otherwise, as discussed in our Escalade forum, the upcoming Escalade will have three engine choices. The 5.3, 6.0 and a V6 for those who want one. Unfortunately, Cadillac is something of a "value" luxury brand right now - but that is slowly changing...

Looks perfect for the type who needs a minivan but is too vain to drive one ... thinking her friends will think she's really a housewife instead of the lady who lunches, before she picks up the kids to go to the karate and swimming lessons and meets her husband at the soccer game!

One idea: Give this car a vortec 5.3 with maybe hybrid as an option(<- this needs to be developed since there's no 5.3 with hybrid yet). Fancy people who buy Lexus GX series SUV will look (IMO GX is fugly! and too Toyota to be a Lexus). Place it between the SRX and the Escalade. Give the Escalade even more powerful 6.2 and a greater sports/utility functions like two speed transfer case, LSD, and etc. :D

How about a base model 3.6DI /Hybrid opt. and a sport model 5.3 non-hybrid as an option to satisfy both types of people. Some people want more MPG and less emissions, and some people want more power/torque, does not matter what MPG it gets. (at least around here people buy small hybrid cars but nobody buys a hybrid SUV. I have never seen an Escalade Hybrid, and I have seen the hybrid version lexus SUV's maybe twice.)

With AFM all these figures should get a decent gas mileage for its size anyway. You don't drive a big SUV and expect to get 30mpg.

Aren't Lambdas basically the same size as a GL?

And it so needs the 5.3L Vortec optional...screw the Hybrid...

It also needs to be much more wedge like w/creased edges, and not as rounded as the other Lambdas.

The only way that I think it's reasonable to put a V8 in it is in the scenario I outlined before where the cost of a Cadillac corporate V8 is spread out over multiple vehicles. Otherwise, and I know I will get flack for this, I don't think a V8 is needed here just for the sake of putting one in. The Lambdas are close in size to the GL, but they're also even closer to the Audi Q7. Audi stopped putting the V8 into the Q7 a couple of years ago and they sell plenty of them just fine. For the kind of driver these mid-tier SUVs have, high feature V6s are MORE than sufficient, especially something like the Twin Turbo V6 that's in development now. Perhaps a slightly de-tuned version. Vehicles like this are where I am willing to make the sacrifice of having a "just because V8" so that vehicles that are ludicrous WITHOUT a V8 can have one.

If anything, this should demonstrate that I'm not blindly riding the V8 train anywhere and everywhere possible. There's places where it's RIDICULOUS to put out a FWD non-V8 car, and others where it will compete just fine. The Enclave is at the top of its market, and so long as the FULL SIZE Escalade remains, a properly executed Cadillac version of the Lambda will be even better.

This should NOT replace the Escalade...I know that the greenies will want this, but that would be fail.

IMO, the problem is with the letter monikers and not "Escalade"...

GM has flipped back and forth on this a few times, but as of right NOW the plan is for the Escalade and this Lambda thing to remain separate vehicle segments. The GMT1000s or whatever they'll be called are on schedule for 2013 as 2014 models. It is Ford who has not defined a plan for the Expedition and Navigator, at least not that I can remember.

Would you say the same about the regular gas engined Escalade? The hybrid sticker is optional, and even if it came on the 'lade, it was still easy to remove. Without that big awful hybrid decal, there is nothing else on the Escalade that screams 'poor taste' anymore then the gas Platinum version does.

The Hybrid version is definitely overpriced
As opposed to the regular gas Escalade that is a great value?

The exact same thing can be said for every single luxury car/suv made. There is no way to quantitatively justify $100k+ for a luxury car of any kind...it just doesn't cost that much to build a car. Demand is what drives price. Nothing new. Vehicles have never been priced based on what they cost to make, or what they are worth. They are priced where they will sell, period.

Driving a GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid at work, it gets 13mpg in city driving, being driven normally(I don't do that hypermile bs). I drove it 40 miles on the interstate one time at 75mph and got a whopping 17.5 mpg. Just get a regular gas version, I'm sure it does similar mileage(oh no we got 11mpg city instead of 13mpg city), and I'm sure it drives nicer with better throttle response.

My mother picked up 6-7 mpg in her daily commute. Same basic vehicle, the differences being the model year and the powertrain. She didnt change her driving style, either. She drives easy, the way youd expect a stereotypical Caddilac to be driven.

Here we go again, arguing value about a brand that we want to be the standard. GM is listening, you guys! :suspect:
Its funny that half the people on a luxury brand board dont get what luxury is about. Value may be important, but there are many more important factors, like...Do I like the car? Does it look good? Does it have everything I need and want? Value? Sure, does it cost relatively close to others in its category.

Value? Value didnt sell the Lexus LFA... Value doesnt sell the Black Series AMG's. Cadillac is not a value based brand, especially at the higher end of its offerings. Value doesnt sell the S600 over a fully loaded S550.

Is an Eames lounger really worth $5k? Does it matter? People with lots of money love them. Thats what matters.

The Hybrid version is definitely overpriced, there's no doubt about that (if you can't determine value, even in a luxury marque, you're blind). However, on the used market the prices end up just about on par with their non-Hybrid brethren. If you do a lot of highway driving and are judicious with the use of the go pedal, it actually makes some sense. The Hybrid appliques are easily removed, and were a factory delete option so some of them don't even have them. Keeping in mind of course that with the Hybrid you lose the excellent 403hp 6.2L V8 which is substituted by the older 6.0L.

You've said this many times, but I don't understand why you are so dead set against luxury SUVs? If I had all the money back I've dumped into these damn wagons, I'd have an '04-06 GMT800 ESV or XL Denali in a heartbeat.
