Rear entertainment system recommendations

Have a new Escalade 2021 and can't really figure out the best way to show pre-recorded videos to the rear entertainment screens. Kids have Amazon tablets but hooking them up didn't work. Open to suggestions.

I'm running an Amazon Fire Stick on ours. You can either connect it to the in-vehicle Wifi or use your phone as a hotspot. We are using the Escalade's wifi and it works great. You just have to turn off the auto stop feature or else the video goes dark at every stoplight. That's about the only "WTF???" design flaw I've been frustrated by, so far.

What do you mean you can't stream movies from the iPad? You can't play already downloaded content on you iPad or phone and stream via bluetooth or USBC to HDMI? It has to be from something like Roku or Apple TV? Page 176 of the manual shows it should be able to stream via HDMI to USBC/lightning cable adapter from your iPad or iPhone no problem. Not wireless but should still easily stream whatever your Apple device is showing. https://my.cadillac.com/content/dam...dynamic/manuals/2021/cadillac/escalade/2021-cadillac-escalade-owners-manual.pdf

The entire RSE system is garbage. You can’t watch any content without adding a third party piece of equipment. The lack of a Blu-ray/DVD drive is ridiculous. There should, at a minimum, be a built in operating system whereby you could access Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc directly from the tablet as opposed to having to add another piece of equipment (fire stick, AppleTV, Roku) to then be able to access these apps. The system is not intuitive and for parents with young children it’s nearly useless and very inconvenient as you can’t simply start content from the front seat for the rear passengers to watch. I find this to be completely ridiculous in a six figure vehicle designed for families. Perhaps an operating system is something that could be added via an update? Whoever thought these changes were good ideas should be fired.

Also - I have yet to figure out how to turn the screens on from the back - I can only turn them on from the front. The dealer didn’t know either. Does anyone know how to turn them on from the back?

Tap/hold for a second in the bottom left hand corner of each screen and they will come on. If yours doesn't, it's not operating the way it should.

I have used Firestick and other ones and If you have Iphone as your primary phone, this is the best way.

I have iPhone 12 pro. I wanted to Airplay screen to rear-seat entertainment system incase I would like to pick out an movie or programs for the kids instead of they picking through. Roku will mirror/airplay your screen.
I bought Roku Ultra. The system is blazing fast. Way faster than Firesticks or other Roku models.
After connecting all the outlet and HDMI, I tucked the wire in between center console and carpet just below the power outlet. I left some wire so I can move the Roku Ultra to under the seat of Passenger side. I am planning to Velcro on the bottom of the seat soon.

The remote doesn't have to point anywhere in order to click. That is why I was able to hid the Roku Ultra under seat. Now, everything is out of sight, and I can airplay videos if I wanted to, or just use the streaming function using hotspot off of my Iphone.
I have 3GB on-star LTE wifi/month, but streaming for less than few hours would use more than that so I just use phone hotspot.

*Regarding Auto-stop, I did notice that wifi connection disconnect when car stops for little bit. I always make sure I turn off auto-stop suctions for now until I can permanently disable it with some codes.

In short, if you has Iphone, buy Roku Ultra. (your kid can plug in wired headphone onto remote for quite listening or use bluetooth headset)

Yeah if you get a Roku those support AirPlay and you can wirelessly stream from an iPad using that.

I have a '21 sport platinum EXT and do not get the black screen flicker every time the auto-stop toggles, although the audio on my stereo does flicker with it which is annoying. I hope they are able to fix that with some sort of TSB.

Fire stick with a Netflix account and Iptv connection straight to the HDMI delivers 8000 channels straight to the back seat. My son watches the nhl channel all the time just insane. Or plug your playstation in at let the kids go nuts endless possibility’s and with the fire stick tv you can mirror straight from your phone as well
Have they fixed this design flaw?
i have a sport platinum 2021 and run a fire stick as well and this doesn’t happen to me

Just picked up our 2022 Platinium Sport Same issues. My wife is pissed on Spending $140K on a car that can't play a $5 DVD. Went out and purchased Roku LT. Set it up. Works like a charm. One problem. Streaming eats data!!. One 30 min netflix show and burned 2GB. Ouch!. Cadillac Give you 12GB for a free trial. That will be gone in 6 hours of driving. Can get 7GB for $35 a month on GM's data Plan. Or go with the Hotspot phone option.

Not sure what the benefit is from just having ipads in the car and hot spotting those off your phone.

Expensive upgrade for the entertainment system.. You would think the GM would have just included unlimited data plans and even build in the Netflix, Prime, Disney apps into the car like the Smart tv's do. Now i have cords running all over the place in the back seat area.

I should mention that i do not have any issue with the Start/Stop feature being on and the rear entertainment center shutting off.
