Hello this is my first post to this site. I drive a 1994 deville and its been idling pretty rough. When I first start it up when the engine is cold it will shut right back off unless i give it gas....I saw a few other posts with similar problems. I looked on the site and found out how to pull codes and i got

I also got a few history codes.
I found out that P048 was Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system Problem
does this mean I just need to have the EGR Valve replaced? I know nothing about motors especially not Cadillacs. im used to hondas. but anyways what all goes into replacing an EGR Valve and is this all I would have to replace? Also before I go about this, Does this even sound like the reason it might be idling rough. like I said before when the motor is cold and i start it up it will shut right back off unless i give it gas. and i have to hold the gas a little while i shift wich i am scared will mess up the transmition. when it warms up it usually wont shut off but at idle the power will go down real low then come back up to normal . thanks for any help. sorry for not spell checkign or anything im in a hurry because I have alot of studying to do before for a big exam in the morning.
I forgot to mention that sometimes after driving for a while. I can smell exhaust fumes inside the car when i turn off the car if that is anymore helpfull.
