My car does the same thing sometimes. Pull the key out and open the door, the radio stays on for 5 minutes or something but shuts off on it's own. Mines only the radio though, nothing else is on.

 

My radio/clock stays on by itself for several minutes after all of the doors are closed when the driver’s door is not the last door closed. My wife is in a wheelchair so the front passenger door is always the last door closed. The radio display always stays on. I can find no documentation for this feature. Note that my car is a 2010.

Are these after market radio's? Sounds like they tapped into the RAP instead of the original radio power.

 

OEM 6 disc CD AM FM XM no NAV. I know the history as the dealer where I worked sold it new and was the only ones to ever work on the car until it came to me.

RAP goes off when you open the driver door. The display stays on. It stays on longer than the interior lights or the headlights. It always stays on and it always goes off after the programmed time. I originally investigated because I didn’t want to show up first thing in the morning to a dead battery. So far no problem.

 

Sounds like a gremlin in some of the cars. Sorry I was confused about RAP but I'm no mechanic, but what is it that turns off the dome light after like 10 minutes if you leave it on? My wife like to pull down the visor as she exits to give herself one last look over and she invariably leaves that light on.

 

I think that is called battery saver or similar. RAP is Retained Accessory Power. Different functions.

 

Mine started doing this a year and a half ago when the battery was dying. It went away for a while after the battery was replaced but does it 90% of the time now. There have been other posts about it, but I don't remember an actual fix being found. Unlike old cars, we don't have a button in the door jamb.

 

Well it did it again tonight. I have a better idea what I am seeing.
When you are driving at night, there are all these dim lights all around the car showing window button, lock- unlock buttons.
In other words, these symbol lights are on when driving at night, so you can see the knobs, buttons, etc,...

This did not happen last time. It was only the instrument front panel lights. Now it is all night driving display lights. But again, it went off after 10 minutes.

One other thing I noticed is when I open the driver door, the dome light does not come on. I assume the switch is bad that is in the door?

any idea what is causing the night display lights to not turn off? Is there a relay or a timer I can adjust?

 

What are you calling the done light? My car has lights above each door but no dome light in the center. Could be because I have a sunroof. I never paid attention but I have had Cadillacs where the courtesy lights only come on at night or in the garage where the light is reduced. It will take a couple of days for me to check this on my DTS.

 

Most cars will have a daylight sensor these days, which is used to let the car know when to turn the lights on via automatic control, if you drive into a tunnel during the day, or when the sun goes down and your lights automatically come on at night.

 

At this point, I decided to replace the switch that senses when the driver door is open or not. This turns on the lights when you enter the car.
What is this switch called? It has been broken for some time...

 

Pull the fuse for the RAP under the back seat. Wait about a minute then put it back into the fuse box. That resolved it for my DTS.
