Blinker Fluid? Really?

First off, if you've been wondering, yes I have been thinking CTS 24/7 for the past month. Literally 24/7.

....So anyway, I have been trying to figure out what these CTS headlamps with washers are all about. Theres none of those baby wiper blades on the front of the lamp so I am wondering what exactly is going on with these washers. Is washer fluid routed to the headlamps and then they are cleaned.....??? internally, externally? I'm really confused.

Am I maybe just thinking of the totally wrong thing when I hear headlamp washers, or do some cts's actually have blinker fluid?

Yes this is a serious question. Since, I am going to be picking up some xenon OEM headlights with the washers in them and I am wondering if I can make them operational on my non washer cts.

Basically what happens is when you press your windshield washer button, IF your headlights are on, the inner section pops out and sprays the lens with a high pressure spray reducing the road grime that may have built up. Works really well in the winter when the salt gets all over them on freeway drives.

Wow, thats awesome. I am pretty sure that once I get these installed I will frequently be hitting the washer button and then running out of my car to try and catch those cool little triangles in action!

OH and by the way, I assume the Xenon headlamps are plug and play with the non xenon cars (besides the blinker fluid)???????

The last Cadillac to use blinker fluid was the Catera, iirc. The 1st and 2nd gen CTS use pneumatic blinker actuations... Cadillac had trouble with hydraulic blinkers not turning on under high lateral g-forces, meaning you couldnt drive through an intersection hard and use the turn signal at the same time.

lol at some of the replies, lateral g-forces really?

To the OP, installing the headlight assembly with the factory HID and "washers". Will be a bit more involved than you think.

Yes the ballast for the HID bulbs are built-in to the headlight assembly. However, they can be removed. So the sell might of done that to sell the separately. Other than that, the should be plug and play electrically wise.

As for the washer part, well that is where more work is needed. First you will need tubes from the washer tank to each of the headlights. Well that is one tube that splits off via a T. Then there is the circuit breaker in the fuse box as well as the relay. Circuit breaker is needed just in case ice gets on the washer, it will trip and you don't have to replace a fuse every time. You will also need the second motor pump in the washer tank. The second motor is needed because there are two burst of the fluid for 2 seconds each. And the pump is higher than the windshield's pump. This is so that you still have fluid to wash the windshield, which is more important. There is always the possibility to have the BCM reprogrammed to know that it now has the ability to wash the headlights. Or it might work with out, I don't know on that part.

Yeah the newer Cadillac headlight assemblies are SPENDY! I hit a bambi (still had its spots :( ) in my 2001 Seville STS and totally wiped out my headlight lens and projector housing...Called Key Cadillac for a price quote for the passenger side..drum roll please. $914!!! For one! Can't imagine what these even newer ones cost....

they're used... that's a fine price, especially if they're in as good shape as they appear to be (and have the ballasts)

you may want to just swap washer bottles to the style that's made for the cars that have this option... (maybe salvage yard will have one you can take that has the pumps and the lines w/ it)

good luck

No matter how much someone posts on a buy it now price and now matter how much something sells for brand new, the SALE price of an item is determined by what a buyer is willing to pay for it. Show of hand of how many people would pay $800 for those headlights? Yeah, nevermind. I know its zero.

Its like the strange thing with CTSV rocker panels. New $368, used from junk yards on ebay and all hacked up $275-375 for a full set. These are quoted prices after talking directly with pick a part and the ever shiddy FS part who refuses to ever give out a phone number.

Youre not talking in general terms, right, just related top ebay? Either way, I still disagree. Sale price is determined by the seller, and influenced by the purchaser, even on ebay. People are not willing to pay 400 for LED taillights either, yet that price is actually more then when the taillights were first listed. The fact that very few buy them is irrelevant. None of them will budge on the price. Sometimes people forget that the seller doesnt have to sell if nooones willing to pay what hes asking.
