1995 STS starter questions and seeking advice

My Mama's starter has gone out and her car has the northstar engine..I already know that it is the one where the starter is located beneath the intake manifold.

I know absolutely nothing about how a car engine or any parts of it operate BUT I am very strong for a girl and also meticulous when following instructions. So, since my mama cannot afford the prices shown to replace her starter here are my questions:

1. If I attempt to replace this starter myself and end up not being able to do it, is there anything I can really screw up so badly it would cost her more in the long run or screw it up so bad it cannot be fixed?

2. If after reading yalls opinions I do attempt to do this myself (I really want to do this to help her out) are there any little tips and tricks you know of that might not be mentioned in a repair manual?

Thank you in advance for your time =)

Re: 1995 Seville STS starter questions and seeking advice

U need a decent tool set. Sockets, ratchets, and so on. Have u ever changed a spark plug? U need to disconnect gas lines next to intake. Can u do that? Fuel is nasty. There is good intentions and no experience. Do u have any friends who have wrenched on cars? Get some help

It's pretty straight forward, you basically just need to remove what's in the way. 6 bolts and 4 studs for the intake manifold, and two bolts for the starter. Might need to relieve fuel pressure and disconnect the fuel line, if more clearance is needed. Probably also requires removal of throttle body + MAF, but not sure.
