Does this work? I want to rotate my tires without a bunch of messing around. Or buying a special tool if I don't need to.

Schrader 28206 Rubber Valve Snap-In TPMS Relearn Procedure
1. Apply the handbrake and put the gear selector in position P.2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.3. Press the MENU button and select the Vehicle information menu.4. Turn the settings knob and select Pressure monitoring system5. Push in the SET/CLR button and keep it depressed for 3 seconds to start the matching procedure for the tire pressure sensors. The message "Are you certain that you want to start the procedure?" will be displayed.6. Press in the SET/CLR button again to confirm the selection. The car horn sounds twice and the blinkers flash to indicate that the tire pressure monitoring receivers are in the programming mode. The message "Tire pressure programming active" appears on the driver information display.7. Begin with the front tire on the driver's side.8. Remove the valve cap from the valve. Activate the TPMS sensor by either increasing or decreasing the tire pressure for five seconds or until the horn sounds. It can take up to 30 seconds until the horn sounds. The horn signal confirms that the sensor identification code has been matched with that tire and tire position.9. Proceed to the front tire on the passenger's side and repeat the procedure in point 8.10. Proceed to the rear tire on the passenger's side and repeat the procedure in point 8.11. Proceed to the rear tire on the driver's side and repeat the procedure in point 8. The horn sounds twice to indicate that the sensor identification code has been matched to the rear tire on the driver's side. The TPMS sensor matching is then no longer active. The "Tire pressure programming active" message is then removed from the driver information display.12. Turn the key OFF.13. Readjust the tire pressures to the recommended values.14. Replace the valve caps on the valves.

I have heard of this method working in leu of having the special tool, but have never tried it.

Well for that price, you have a good point. I'll look into that. Seems most are paying around a hundred bucks for similar tools. Again though, is this easier? Plus one more tool cluttering up my tool chest. Maybe it's just me, but I have so damned many specialty tools these days that I'm once again running out of storage capacity.

As for turning off the key, that wouldn't apply in this case. I'd think you'd just shut the ignition off. These instructions I figure cover some vehicles that likely still have keys.

That tool looks like it may be the best way to go even though I'll have to find somewhere to stash it away when not needed.

One other question. I've read before a good magnet can be substituted for the relearn tool on some GMs. Anybody know if this works on our cars? I'd feel a bit stupid paying even 10 bucks for a relearn tool that is nothing more than a magnet in a plastic box.

I rotate every 5000 miles so I bought the cheap tool and once you learn the “sweet spot” when placing the tool it goes quickly. Seems to me deflating and inflating the tires would be a lot more hassle. I have a lot more specialty tools then I can keep track of too. What’s really frustrating is buying a new one only to discover I already own one 😖
