Timing cover leak

Was cleaning my car the other day and noticed that I had sludge build up on turbo side of timing chain/belt cover and on the alternator. Now I'm not too worried about it, I'm sure it's just a bad gasket, but with 45,000 miles I'm a little surprised. Anyone else had this issue this early on?

I went thru this BS... They call it "seepage" and seepage is not covered under warranty. I got the service mgr, shop mgr and my SA out to the drive and asked them to take goo whiff of my engine bay and the call and tell my wife why the garage smells like burnt oil. I also offered to park my car in anyone of their garages over night. no takers. He is the repair invoice and you will see why they don't want to fix it.

oemtech, what is up with the 0W20 Dexos on the repair ticket? Are they trying to make sure that it leaks again? :) 0W20 in a turbo engine sounds a little lite unless you are hanging out with the polar bears up at the North Pole.

I think I am sticking with 5W30 in my 2016 Z06 instead of going to the new spec 0W40 which I think was primarily so that you can use the same oil for track and street. Outside of convenience I think for Corvette the original oil spec of Mobil 1 5W30 for street and Mobil 1 15W50 for track is a better setup.

Hey guys, wanted to bump this thread. I just took my ATS in for a coolant leak at 60k miles. There was a hairline fracture in an aluminum piece. While the car was in the shop the Service Advisor mentioned there was oil seepage around the timing cover. He said it wasn't worried about it now and that I should keep an eye on it. Seems crazy at just 60k miles. They quoted are $1,500 for a timing cover reseal. Has anyone else gotten this fixed out of warranty? If so, what did it run ya?

It's funny that you mention the coolant leak. I'm chasing one currently myself. 52k miles. I haven't seen fluid in the driveway and no coolant smell, but she drank through an entire reservoir in only 5k miles

Just got back from the dealer. They said i have the start of a oil leak at the timing cover. My 2019 XTS has just over 62,000 miles. They quoted me $2250.00 for this repair. This is the first car i ever took an extended warranty on. Luckily its covered with a $50..00 deductible. WHEW!!!. But seems this is a common issue.
