I don't fully know at this time, but having no plan / data on the car and the sign still working says to me it's unrelated.
maybe no longer needing a plan but the data still comes from OnStar. Only vehicles with the older built in maps does that data come from the vehicle.

Do we think GM made to the leap to read the road signs on the Lyriq? I know some other manufacturers do this, and apparently GM on certain vehicles.

Oddly, this write-up says an OnStar plan is needed also (not clear what Chevy this page is talking about)...

I think it will get there eventually. Some of the odd behavior my car does is not display the speed limit in my neighborhood. On particular roads right after turning onto that road the display will go to 30 mph and then at the same point every time go to the correct speed limit (typically 45 mph). No section of that road is ever as low as 30 mph nor was the road I came from 30 mph. Still could be a map data issue of course, but I wonder if this is working towards using camera data too.

Mine is definitely NOT reading speed limit signs. I have passed many speed limit signs since the speed limit display stopped working - never displays the speed limit.

Indeed - there are some connected things that stick around for awhile. I think that plan is even longer. The web site seems to be not working so well right now, but I thought this was 10 years...

I just checked, mine expire date means it was good for 8 years from purchase. I suspect this may be how some data gets to the car maybe including speed limit info.

Ive watched mine change, sometimes it’s just before a speed limit sign, other times after it, I think it’s using data not reading signs

I thought it was a nice to have until I realized when driving wife’s car, how much I miss it

There are a few streets near me that they lowered from 30 mph to 25 mph. (and then write tickets for 30 mph, but that's a different issue.) The speed limit sign in the car is still at 30 mph. When I drive by the signs they do not change the car display. My Landrover Discovery Sport would change when driving past signs.

Hmm - not sure. Maybe do the infotainment reset (hold end-call for 10 seconds).

My speed limit display is still working (knock on whatever) - both before and after the Google Maps update. Liftgate also working reliably after the full vehicle software update. Left side of the cluster also now stays on the trip screen between every power cycle - used to only last a couple days before something reset and defaulted to the initial left side screen (not trip display).

My first anomaly since the vehicle full update was yesterday, with the Service Vehicle Soon indicator on and the Li-Ion and 12V battery faults showing in the mobile app. Later today, both the icon in the car and the mobile app faults are gone again.

Perhaps some update triggered the loss of function for your speed limit, and maybe now an underlying fault. Even though OTA updates for the main modules are disabled, some things are still happening like the Android Automotive apps, SuperCruise map updates, and perhaps even the OnStar module. Wonder if something happened during one of those quiet updates.

I'm not clear where the speed limit info comes from or how it gets communicated to the instrument cluster portion of screen (via the radio). The data would seem to be coming from Google Maps, but not sure of the specifics of the hardware and software partitioning in the radio for the left/right side screen content. Maybe @ElectricAvenue could find some clues.

When my speed limit display got broken after the Android 12 release, I can say they fixed it without doing the infotainment USB update - just the radio and serial data gateway updating. Kinda surprised me - I thought the bigger USB update of the infotainment would be needed. So almost like something was in a fault state. Had this fixed a few months back before the 'March update', and it continued to work afterward as well.

I've ordered a the Topdon TopScan Pro. Will see how that lower cost tool ($100) performs versus the other tool that was mentioned on the OBDII thread. Something like this may shed light if there are hidden faults occuring that may explain some of this. Might be standard equipment to carry in the car - like the 10mm wrench for the 12V battery.
10mm wrench for the 12V battery - could you fill me in, as to what the deal with that is (some type of "rescue" operation of sorts when you're in a particular pickle ?) :)

Correct.

Correct.

Just don't post this advice on the Facebook group. Admins threatened to remove me from the group for suggesting the 'hard' (battery disconnect) reset. Unbelievable.

It was more useful in the early days of the Lyriq. Fortunately things have improved with the software such that this 'nuclear' method is probably only needed now if the car strands you, as a last resort.

Which group? There are two Lyriq FB groups... one is a lot more strict than the other.

Update to my Speed Limit issue:

It started working again today just as mysteriously as it stopped working some 3-4 weeks ago. Nothing I tried resolved the issue. Then today, going to a financial advisor it didn't work. On my return it worked.

Interesting. The intermittent nature is how mine used to work middle of last year before the Android 12 update. That broke it completely, but the recent 'March update' has resolved it. It does have wrong readings like some people mention (55 MPH showing for my 30 MPH neighborhood), but I have not experienced any dropouts like when the car was new and with the older software.

Wish we knew a bit more on where this speed limit information is coming from.

Wasn’t there a rip in the space time continuum right about the time you drove home ?🙃
Yes, there was. I'm actually reliving the last 4 weeks. :ROFLMAO:
