My go-to is Samsung Pro Endurance. Highly recommend.

 

The book says to use 32GB, but have you successfully used a bigger card or did you stick with 32 or less?

 

I'm using a Samsung Pro Endurance 256 GB card for my PDR and just a 32GB Sandisk SDHC for the SVR.
You can record a lot of drives with 256GB. In case you need to know, the PDR will limit a recording to 5 hrs. You can restart another if you need to continue.

I've been reading about the CT5V and just wanted to clarify a couple of things. PDR is "performance data recorder" and SVR is "surround video recorder"? Where are the 2 slots located? Also, the PDR for CT5V(non blackwing) shows video only and does not overlay performance info like the one in the Blackwing?

The slot for the PDR is to the left of the steering wheel and close to the HUD switches. The SVR slot is on the right side of the trunk.

So, I just pulled the SD card from the SVR in the trunk and, lo and behold, nothing has been recorded. How do I turn the SVR on to record? Does it only record if someone trips the vehicle alarm?

 

So, you saw no files on it when you put the card in a PC or when you tried to access any files from the screen in the car?

I don't remember any enable feature in settings, but mine has always automatically recorded on every trip or a security event (though some security events say they are not playable for some reason).

 

Ok, I figured it out. First, I didn't realize there's an app in CUE for the SVR. Second, the files weren't in a folder I was looking in. They are on the card, in no folder, and they are all AVI files. Recording quality is fair at best.

Update: I haven't driven my CT5-V very often and just recently pulled the SD card and lo and behold it was full and had stopped recording a couple of months ago. So - unlike the SVR, the PDR does not record over itself. I have mine set to auto-record on start-up (in lieu of a dashcam) and it records in 1080P so a 128GB card (exFAT format) fills up pretty quickly.

Anyway, I had assumed the PDR records over itself when it is full but that was incorrect - and there doesn't appear to be a setting that enables that.

Just sharing - I figure others have already discovered this.

 

There is a message that comes on the display screen when you start the car that recording is beginning. If you don't see that message it is time to reformat the card, which is an option in the PDR function. If you want to keep the data, by all means swap out the card with a blank.

PS: part of the PDR function is to collect data regarding "G" forces, acceleration and braking while on a course. I did find that the drivers display on the left can show the "G" forces while cornering on normal driving. Would anyone know what the max "G" force would be before going into a skid?

Makes sense. I hadn't really noticed that the message was no longer appearing.

I'm guessing that the maximum G force without losing the rear end would depend on conditions, tires, AWD/RWD, etc. CD recorded 0.99 on their skidpad test for a RWD CT5-V: Tested: 2020 Cadillac CT5-V Needs a Different Name

 

Can you use a 256GB in both the PDR and the SVR? I want to max out both slots and use the best of the best for both. Is there a certain format they both need to be formatted in as well?

 

The manual says 32GB for the SVR and that is what most people find work properly. FAT32

The owner's manual for my 2023 5 BW includes this description for the SVR:

"...An SD card will be needed for this system. The minimum recommended SD card specifications are at least 64GB, with a FAT32 file system, and a video class of V30 or greater."

There is no mention of an upper storage limit.
