Have any of you ever used an aftermarket HUD? Since GM canceled the dual plane HUD for the 2023 Lyriq I am wondering what my options are. I think they should have put in at least a basic HUD vs none at all. However I do not see that happening.

What are you guys thinking of doing? The Hyundai Ionic 5 was able to do it, I wonder why GM couldn’t or chose not to? They could of added the in dash Augmented Reality display like the Escalade.

Many of us are wondering the same about Cadillac's rationale for removing certain features found in less-expensive vehicles, including the head-up display. Some people have suggested it's due to space limitations under the dash; but since there isn't even a frunk, I don't believe that. Others have opined that the chip shortage affected implementation of a HUD system, which is somewhat plausible.

For me, I believe the main reason is because Cadillac doesn't know what its doing ;)

One good solution might be this: https://www.amazon.com/Multi-color-Windshield-Projector-Overspeed-Interface/dp/B07D4H1C86/

Alternatively, here's a June 2022 article rating several other aftermarket HUD systems: Best Heads Up Displays for Cars (Reviewed June 2022)

What? Has someone really said this? All the prior discussion I've seen was whether or not you'd be able to basically plug-in the necessary modules from future model years.

HUD's were originally created because instrument panels were static.
I can live without a HUD, but the primary purpose of a HUD IMHO is not removing your eyes from the road even to look down at the instrument cluster even if you can customize it.

Edit: as far as the OP's question, I'm not a fan of tacked on solutions for my personal vehicles particularly if they have very nice interiors.

As I understand it, a HUD (heads-up display) is information projected onto the inside of the vehicle's windshield and requires special hardware installed in the dashboard. I'll be extremely disappointed if the LYRIQ is not able to do what the Escalade is doing in that thumbnail. It should have all of the necessary hardware, as it is also needed to support Super Cruise.
Personally, if the above capability is included on the LYRIQ, I don't see a need for the information to also be projected onto the windshield. HUD's were originally created because instrument panels were static. Now that some IPs are essentially screens, the need to project redundant information onto the windshield seems unnecessary and is probably why it was one of the first items dropped from the LYRIQ.

This is where the HUD is coming from. It's all up to them and their capability to deliver honestly.
