How can I tell if I have HIDs or not?

As part of our '05's freshening -- after the new engine, suspension, and dubs -- it's getting a pair of new headlight assemblies and an E&G Classics mesh grill. Both of the originals are leaking and full of moisture.

I went out to check to see if we have halogens or HIDs....

A friend has an '05 CTS. He told me once the dealer wanted $400 to replace his headlight bulb because fenderwell liners and grillwork have to come off to get to the modules. I've run into the same issue with front corner marker light modules, but I had hoped the headlight modules were easier to access. I see they are not. No way to get to the bulbs without pulling the modules. That will wait until the grill comes out all at once. In the meantime I'd like to order new assemblies to have them ready.

How can I tell if I have HIDs or halogens? Is there a build sheet-by-VIN service or something that will give me a complete breakdown?

There isn't one on mine, but it can be in different places such as in the glove box, door, door jamb, and as you mentioned in the rear. Get a dealer to run your VIN and they will tell you if you have HID, but as mentioned no headlight washers = no HID.

Yeah, checked all the door jambs, glove box, etc. No happiness there. Already called the better of the two local dealers. Service rep couldn't be bothered and passed me off to parts. Parts guy said it was service's responsibility to answer build/parts questions. I think we're on a "don't bother supporting these people" list since we politely declined the SALES calls we started getting from them after third ECM went bad. ( Replaced it with a $100 junkyard unit with the right 8-digit Delphi number rather than paying the dealer $1100 for another new one that would probably only last a year and a half. Again. No, they wouldn't stand behind the last one they replaced. )

I hear you. The washers go with HIDs. We don't have washers. Almost certainly don't have HIDs. Not surprising -- it's a base model with the group option package that included the 18" wheels. I still want the accurate option list for future reference. This is the second time I've needed it this month.
