where did you look? any particular year and trim option?

 

You need a spring compressor and the torque specs if you want to do it right. I would stick with OEM struts if you don’t want to do this again. The new struts will last twice as long as the original. GM improved the quality and they come from a company called BWI. I would look to see if your upper rubber insulator is in good condition. The bottom has an isolator which is a plastic piece at the bottom of the spring. If this is your first time changing the strut then you could reuse everything. The springs are good for 30+ years or more unless they been cut or rusted. If you’re doing it yourself then you could have a shop put it together for you for $50. Man you will fall in love with your truck once you do this. There are jounce bump stops inside the upper rubber insulator. You can buy those at any AutoZone. Everything else should be OEM. If you want to make your truck awesome after you do this change your tires for Michelins Defenders LTX and you just got a real Cadillac ride. I think the orange sticker OEM BWI struts are better then the yellow sticker originals.

So this is what came from Rock Auto. I was expecting either a yellow or orange sticker. Are these the older ones?

 

Here is what it should look like. I would find out from the dealer parts department if GM changed the sticker recently to B&W. I don’t think those struts look official but I could be wrong. I would also want the date they was manufactured. You don’t want struts that been sitting on the self for years.

 

Is it right that the new struts are 2" longer than the ones I am replacing? Or is the one I have pulled off so far just compressed? I am not able to extend it further pulling on it.

 

That's definitely the right part number (I got the same number from the dealership 84977478), but that length difference is concerning... seems a bit much for normal compression wear. I know this isn't any help, but I am following this thread because I have this same repair coming up soon, and was going to buy the same part from Rock Auto.

Every search I do comes back with part# 84977478 so wonder if this is a replacement for the entire original assembly, meaning I need new, longer springs as well.

 

@Mxz901 so I just got the exact same parts from Rock Auto - what did you end up doing? did this ultimately work for your truck? I'm planning to put them on a 2019 Esclade ESV

 

I brought them to my local Cadillac dealership and they confirmed that they are in fact the correct ones for the truck. They just have a very generic label on them instead of the orange/yellow one.

The difference in length was due to my take-offs being so worn out that they would not fully extend.

I'm sure my take offs are going to be messed up - I waited too long

Did you end up getting a shop to do the spring compression and reassembly or did you do it yourself?

 

Working great! You absolutely need to take them to a shop with a quality compressor. I tried with the $100 junk from Harbor Freight and quickly realized the springs are far too stiff for attempting this in the garage.

So I replaced my front struts and now have the service suspension system error message on the dash. I doubled checked everything and it looks fine and car is riding fine. Any tips on how to clear the message. I still have the dealer do oil change/tire rotation so I asked them to clear it but of course they won’t do it.
