I started getting the dreaded 'Service Stabilitrak' message on my 2011 Cadillac SRX dash. It also shows ABS, Traction Control, and Brake indicator lights. This happens intermittently, usually when I first start up in the morning and start driving. If I sit and let the car idle for a few minutes it doesn't happen. Just when I pull out of my driveway and start down the street. (I've read that the EBCM performs a self test at 3mph after startup) Had the codes pulled and the C056D-00 ECU Hardware Malfunction is listed.
I talked with the local Cadillac dealership and they informed me the EBCM is obsolete and cannot be purchased. They said they have to pull the existing EBCM, send it to Canada for reconditioning, and reinstall it on the SRX. $1500 repair job. I've also read that the EBCM is programmed to the specific VIN of the car and that used ones cannot be interchanged, only new ones can be programmed to the car's VIN. Which, I'm assuming, is why Cadillac needs to pull the old one and get it reconditioned.
I'm just reaching out to those folks who own a 2010-2016 Cadillac SRX to see if you have had similar issues. And what the resolution is. This all kind of makes sense to me but need some confirmation from those with past experience or direct knowledge.
Thanks for the help, Lynn

I've been reading some of the other discussion threads and see many folks having similar problems. The consensus solution seems to be pull the old EBCM off (not the pump, just the computer) send it to a company (looks like there are many to choose from) who repair it and return it. They claim plug and play, no need to reprogram the repaired unit. Which seems to be very similar to what the Cadillac dealership is suggesting. Car is undrivable while this occurs.
I'm looking at xemodex, com. $249 for the repair and $79 for express shipping charge. The EBCM is a bear to remove...behind the battery and under the brake fluid reservoir. 4 T20 torx screws to remove. May try it this weekend.
I just noticed the company is in Canada. This may actually be the same company that the Cadillac dealership is using LOL!

I watched a video of a mechanic removing the EBCM ABS computer component. He made it seem easy, but it didn't look as simple as he implied. Video below:
I'm adding a video of the cable assembly removal for completeness
However, I was able to remove the battery and the battery compartment and viola...the EBCM is easily accessible. I didn't remove the EBCM yet because I want to research more companies that can do the repair to the ABS computer before I remove it and send it off for repair. So, when I find a EBCM repair shop that I like I will go all the way and remove the EBCM and send it in for repair. More to come...
And, BTW, it looks like the ABS computer repair is simply to re-solder the through-hole component solder joints. I've seen a video of someone doing this repair as well. I don't fully understand why a solder joint would cause the ABS computer to indicate a failure. So if there are some electrical engineers out there that can explain I'm all ears.

I've completed my research for repair companies. Its looks like there are 3 main ones that advertise heavily on the web (these prices are for the 2011 Cadillac SRX)...
1. xemodex,com (mentioned above), $249
2. G7 Computers, $225
3. UpFix, $420
I think they all do full diagnostics on the computer and replace/repair parts or solder joints that are bad. I've got a call into G7 Computers to confirm, but I will go with them mostly because they are the cheapest.
Follow-up (2/1/2024)
Read a bunch of bad reviews for G7 Computers. And confirmed some of the comments about bad communications. I called them (stated above) and never received any calls back. I emailed them and got 1 sentence responses. I think this is a single person in his basement doing the repairs and not really a company. So maybe going with the cheapest choice isn't the best option. I don't want to send it to Canada (xemodex.com), so looks like UpFix is the winner even though they are the most expensive.

Removed battery, battery compartment, and the ABS computer this weekend. Came out pretty easy with the battery out of the way. Sent module to UpFix on 2/2/2024. They provided a shipping label for the shipment...that was nice. They rx'd the module on 2/7/2024 and are in the process of fixing it. They have indicated it will be completed by 2/15/2024 and then will request payment (nothing paid so far). They have good communications both on website and via email. Looks like a solid company. Seems to be a bit slow. Right now my car is not drivable and have to wait until I get the module back before I can get car going again. So, this could take 3 weeks total front to back timeframe including shipment times.

Well, I'm supposed to get my EBCM ABS computer back from UpFix today. I will install it this weekend. Actually, the $420 wasn't a bad price after all...included all shipping costs there and back, and I didn't pay any sales tax. So, the $420 is all inclusive. Below is a copy of the info on the website...pretty inclusive as well. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem...more to come.
Follow-up (2/20/2024)
Well, I couldn't wait and installed it on Friday afternoon (2/16/2024). When I started the car the ABS and Traction Control lights came on and the 'Service Stabilitrak' message appeared. I was a little panicked, but decided to drive it around the block to see how it drove and as soon as I started driving down the street all indicators went off. So, I'm assuming the codes were already present from previously and, remembering the 3 mph self test that it performs, it must have cleared all indicators when it completed the self test. Anyway, so far so good. I'm really happy with UpFix, they communicated well, wrote a good report on repairs performed, and I knew exactly what the cost would be up front without any surprises.
I'm thinking everything is working correctly now. It was a pretty easy repair. Unless I run into problems over the next several weeks I will not post anything else here. I hope this was informative, it sure was for me. If anyone has questions I will check back from time to time and try to answer.
