Just got my 2008 CTS loaded black on black. Need help w/ 1 annoying feature. If you are experiencing the following problem, let me know. I set up the memory tilt/telescope to retract when the door is opened for an easier exit. Works great. The problem is that when I open the door to get in the steering wheel goes to the driving position before I get in. I believe I have tried all possible combinations to stop this from accuring, w/o any success. It would be nice to get in the car before the adjustments start to happen like on the STS. This could be a problem that is programmed into the vehicle. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Unfortunately the easy access feature isn't key-on key-off. If you want to keep the steering wheel in the retracted position don't use your key fob unlock button. Simply open the driver door and sit in the seat. Then push your memory 1 or 2 button and the streering wheel will go to the driving position. This takes a bit of getting used to but that's what I do.

If you hit the unlock button using your keyfob, the seats and steering wheel will adjust. If you just simply grab the door handle ( providing you have the keyless acsess) you can get in very easily and comfortably being that the steering wheel is all the way retracted and the seat is as far back as it goes. Once in the seat push the number 1 on the memory seat and everything will adjust to what you have set it to. I do this and it works great.

ByeByeLexus -- I do have keyless access. The problem is that when I grab the door handle and open the door the steering wheel and seat begin to move immediately. At that point I hit the easy exit buttom so that it reverses. Sounds likeGreyghost4 has the same problem. Am I still missing something.

What we would be looking to accomplish is that when we open the door nothing happen. When we are seated and turn the key(not really a key) then the steering wheel tilts into position and the seat moves up. I'm tall and my knee always hits the wheel on entry because it tilted back down when I grabbed the door handle and opened it.
What a great car though. When I go to sleep at night, I think about where I can drive to the next day, just to drive it.:D

GreyGhost4 - Spent a lot of time w/ a GM engineer and finally figured out how to get into the car w/o activating the memory recall. Bear with me as I explain. Try this on your car and let me know if it worked. It worked on mine and makes getting back in much easier.
1) Set your East Exit Recall to "Button and Automatic Selected.
2) In Easy Exit Set-up chose what you want to adjust. i.e. just the seat, seat/tilt, tilt/telescope, etc.
3) Next make sure that Memory Seat Recall is OFF.
4) After you have done all of this, if you are using key fob#1, press #1 until you here the 2 beeps to store the changes.
Now you will be setup as follows: When you turn off the car and open the door, everything will automatically adjust to your settings.
When you open the door to get in nothing will happen until you press the #1 button.
The key to this is making sure this works MEMORY SEAT RECALL is OFF and that you store the info in the correct button on the door when finished.

Is there any way to have the wheel tilt down into driving position when the ignition is turned to the on position(starting the car)? On my other car the seat and wheel moves into driving position when the car is started.
I hate to beat a dead horse but wouldn’t that be a logical sequence of events?

Mine works the way Keith describes. When I open the door to get out of the car, the seat slides back and the steering wheel retracts and tilts upward. It stays in that position when I close the door. When I open the door, either by pulling on the handle or pushing the unlock button on the keyless remote, the seat and wheel return to their normal driving position. I've tried the two settings in the DIC, namely "Door Button Only" and "Button And Automatic," and both work the same in this regard (i.e., the seat slides forward and the steering wheel returns to the driving position when the car is unlocked or the door opened).

However, I think this is probably the way Cadillac intended for it to work. I'm a fairly big guy, 6'0" and 210#, and although I find the exit setting to be helpful when getting out of the car, I have no problem getting back in when the seat is in the driving position. With the seat all the way back, however, I find the controls are difficult to reach, including the ignition switch and the memory seat button.

I found this thread because of another problem with the exit seats. According to the manual, page 1-7, you can set the exit seat position. I've followed the directions to the letter, using both the seat memory buttons and the keyless entry transmitter, both with the engine on and off, but I can't get it to work. The manual says to press button 1 OR the unlock button on the transmitter, then adjust the seat to the position you want for exit, then press and hold the exit button. When I do the last step, the seat pushes all the way back instead of giving me two beeps to indicate it has remembered the desired position. If no position is set, then the seat goes all the way back, crushing the feet of anyone in the back seat. As I said, I ain't tiny, but I sure don't need it back that far.

Anyone else have this problem? Any successful in getting the car to remember the desired exit position?

Thanks.

You cannot program the exit position. There are at least 2 exit positions which are factory set on the car. Your seat will move back to one of these factory set positions based on the position of the seat before the easy exit function begins.

Speaking of the manual, mine makes me laugh. It is about the cheapest thing I have seen. Cheap paper, and the pages are cut so badly that the page numbers do not appear on some of the pages. My manual came with a supplement for pages 1-7 and 1-8. I am glad that the manual is the place that GM decided to cut corners!

So apparently the manual is simply wrong. I think I'll switch over to the "Door Button Only" setting. That way it's there when I want it, not a PITA other times.

As for the manual, I was surprised mostly by the poor quality of the paper on which it's printed, especially after years of owning high-end German and Japanese cars.

I found a PDF version of the manual on line for only $5.99, including the full owner's manual, the navigation manual, and the convenience & personalization guide. Nice because it has an interactive index, it's searchable, and it can be printed page by page. Got it from this place: CLICKY

Hi, 2010 CTS AWD here :) I'm trying to get my easy exit to work. Shortly after I bought it (1/18) I was trying to figure out what options I had. I have RKE access (key Access) and I do not have a power steering wheel. After playing around I got it to work (sort of). A few times I would park and walk away, then when I came back to my car the seat had moved back (while my back was turned....LOL). I would use my remote to unlock the car and the seat would move up (I don't even know if my mirrors ever got in on the action) before I had a chance to get in. Then it stopped. I don't know why. I think at about the same time I had an after market remote start installed. So, I hung it up for awhile.

I've decided to tackle it again. I did manage to get my Easy Exit Recall to give me the Automatically On option (for the first time). I can NOT figure out how to do anything with my Easy Access Setup to give me any option but Off or No Change. I think something's missing? I did do a factory reset in my DIC and went through the steps to reset my Easy Exit Recall but not the Easy Exit Setup. I'm stumped.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Robyne
