I just traded my 2018 CT6 Premium Luxury edition for $38k. It was used and had some scuffs on the paint or they said they would have given me 40k.

I got quotes from Carvana and Vroom before going to the dealership and they basically were all in the same ballpark.

KBB typically lists higher private sale prices than corresponding 'trade-in'. Isn't that the case in real life? Just trivia, but for one of the few cars I've ever bought new the dealer begged me to turn in something as trade. I took him up on his plea with a 10-year old craptastic 2 kid new driver blown tranny seal 'different shade green' replacement door rustbucket Explorer that I was gonna donate for the charity write-off. Trade given was $4,000 but they really really wanted to ditch that last year's model SUV haunting their lot.

Caddy may have made a very savvy move last year, even if by accident. The lease deals on ct6 got crazy good at the turn of the new year. Residuals went quite high as did the rebates. This put people into cheap leases and totally cleared the inventory off the dealer lots. There never was a "fire sale" on ct6 that would degrade resale values. The high residuals means the cars coming off-lease are not undercutting the used market now. It was fortunate for gm that the overall used market is up, or they could have had a number of upside-down lease returns to dispose, but it's also a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. People who bought and loved the car have few options to buy anything similar now. They will keep theirs, ensuring scarcity for ct6. Lessees will either fork over the high residual to buy and keep the car, or it will go on the market at a fairly high price, thus propping up the current inflated used prices. It seems the stars have aligned in a way that makes Cadillac look brilliant in their strategy to move the volume at the end of the run. I

I know the buy-out price on mine is way too high for me to consider, but I have no doubt it would be a "great deal" in comparison to what the current market value likely is. The only problem is for those of us prone to want to swap cars in a couple of years. By then, supplies should normalize and today's "great bargain" may look like gross overpayment.

That was part of the reason I traded in. My wife's car was a 2018 Volvo Xc60 and the lease was ending next month. The buyout of the lease was something like $34k and I ran the numbers on Carvana and it was like $37k.

We got her a 2021 BMW X3 M Competition and that dealer said he couldn't beat Carvana. So we didn't trade anything in and just did a straight up deal there.

So I was kicking around the idea of keeping either the Volvo or the Cadillac, but I also wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

So I was getting trade in quotes for both cars and the Jeep dealership was pretty empty, he wanted both cars and beat the Carvana price on both while still giving me a fair price on the JGC.

Obviously the dealer still wins in the end with dealer math, but I felt good about the financials.

It is super nice, but it has insane power. So it is fun to drive like that, but only for fun. I personally would not want that to be my daily driver. My wife loves it though.

We test drove the X5 as well, which to me, felt like a really nice Grand Cherokee, which is what re-sparked my interest in getting the JGC.

It's CPO until the CPO warranty runs out. I've sold several CPO cars I bought from dealers and later sold on auto trader. Almost every buyer called dealership and verified warranty as that's a big selling point.

Although they have changed the cpo program making it much less attractive so they could have changed that too. Use to be 6 year (2 additional years) 100k bumper to bumper making year old cadillacs amazing deals. Now it's just one additional year.

My Blackwing I bought new and my 2nd v sport I bought 6 years old with 14k miles and just added a GM Cadillac 5 year 100k warranty for $3500. First year it paid out $8,000, lmao.

I've been driving cadillacs for 20 years, so I know not to own one without a warranty.

Last year 2 year old platinums with supercruise were going for low 50s. Now they are low 60s.

KBB has my 2 year Ram Diesel with 20k miles on it worth $12,000 more than I paid new for it. Now, I did get $12,000 off MSRP, so basically I could sell my 2 year old truck with 20k miles for original MSRP. That's crazy.

Friend totalled his Ford super duty and can't buy a new one because there literally is not one single new super duty available in the Houston Metroplex. Only option is to order one.

Diesel Trucks have gone just crazy...

In '08 I bought my '02 F350 4X4 7.3L w/14Kmi on it. Today, 12yrs later, my insurance co put it's replacement value at 19K$. Exactly what I paid in '08! ;)
Well, it's probably worth more than that. Check out bring a trailer or autotrader. Fords with the 7.3 have become very desireable. If it's a stick it's worth over 30k easy regardless of miles. That motor has a cult following. The 6.0 and 6.4 not so much, lol.

It's funny I still look everytime I hear a 7.3. They have a destinct sound thats amazing. Same as the old 5.9 cummins.

Hang on to that truck as all indications are they will continue climbing. I wish I'd kept my 2000 excursion with the 7.3. They go for crazy money too.

I had a 2013 ATS and a 2014 XTS Vsport we traded on a 2017 Acadia. The ATS with 90K was worth more than I owed but opposite for the XTS. Both were purchased used below KBB numbers. They hold their value really well for a luxury brand compared to a economy brand which hold their value better.

We'll agree to disagree on "holding value". When I say I only came out ahead on one I mean I actually sold it for more than I paid for it, not more than I owed on it. Tell me about your CT6 E. Girlfriend loves my CT6 but doesn't want the god awful mileage I get and I thought the E might be a great solution for her. Her job is only 12 miles away so she could drive to and from work every day and never use gas. We're waiting right now for prices to come down.

It is known fact that cars depreciate except for the last 6-months or so. The Cadillac's I purchased for less than KBB and taraded at or above KBB. Some economy brands can't do that even Japanese ones, let alone luxury brands.

I also drive to work 12 miles to work and charge at work. The time is spent in EV mode and aside from driving more than 40 miles and using up the battery, the engine comes on about every 3-months for about 3-5 minutes and when temperatures dip below 15°F. The range will drop 25% on the coldest days plus the heat uses EV battery. The Voltec system is well proven in Volts which share the same battery size but use a 1.4l engine. Unless you like the ELR style which is gorgeous but a bit over priced compared to the higher tech in the CT6 and longer range. I see used prices are up on autotrader for CT6 2.0E plug-in's....but in the $30's under CPO it is allot of car!

Yeah, there were great deals on CT6 E cars last fall and we should have pulled the trigger but who knew we'd have this kind of market. There was a black 18 CPO for 35k with only 18k miles on it around christmas but she didn't want black and now I wish we'd snatched that up. Now they want 45k for similar cars. She wants white or purple and that really narrows it down but she's all about the color. She has no use for a 2 door car with the kid and she really really likes my CT6. She likes how if floats down the road, how big and roomy it is and of course all the neat technology. She hates my V Sport, lol.
