Well...75,000 miles and I am getting the dreaded clunk when going over RR tracks or hitting a bump etc...
I assume shocks and struts....and being magnetic ride I am a little nervous about getting the correct parts...
Of course the garages want over $600 each for the struts but unless I am wrong, which I very well might be, Rock Auto has them for around $350 each...

I also want to replace the rears while doing this so I can be done with it so any help there would be nice to...

Any information would be helpful and appreciated very much...

I am a car guy who has built a couple cars and have tools etc however these newer modern cars are a different animal as you know...

I do have someone that IS knowledgeable enough to install them and has no problem with me supplying the parts...
If there is any info needed that I have not given just let me know...
Thank you to anyone willing to help with knowledge and info...

Check the RPO codes for your car. The label should be under the trunk floor door. You have either GNA or GNB. Those are the differences. Looks like it's the same part number either way for the struts. They both are magnetic ride control. As for the shocks, they are different left and right. F55 is the code for magnetic ride control. The XTS uses air springs for the rear suspension. No need to replace unless they are not holding the air pressure.

Cool...I will check the RPO...
These are not loaded....do you think I should use me old springs and have them changed over...?

As far as the rears go...I swear I'm hearing a slight clunk there too occasionally...we're gonna keep the car a while so I might go ahead and do all four anyway...
Thank you for your help :) but don't be surprised if I am back with more questions LOL

????????????????????????????
That big plastic thing that has the air pump in it? The only thing I saw there is a couple of flatish (almost flush) black plastic plugs about the size of a quarter...those?
I have no cargo hooks that I am aware of...
Man...why do they hide it this way..??? LOL

Okay, full disclosure...I have not looked at the label in my car. The label was under the spare cover in my STS. I found earlier posts on the location on the XTS. It's the long black plastic trim piece right inside the trunk. I purchased a build sheet from www.compnine.com for $10 that listed the codes and nomenclature of everything installed on your car by the VIN. The best way to go IMHO. If you still want to find your label, search RPO label in this forum. The black trim panel in my trunk has a chrome ring at each end to clip the cargo net to.

Ok...I see that panel now at the far rear and I see the chrome hoops a cargo net would hook to...
Funny I never saw those before! Lol
How in heck does it come off?
Those loops don't seem to budge and I see no fasteners at all...
I tugged on it a little in case it snapped into place somehow but it does not give and I don't want to break it...

There are plastic covers around the chrome rings that snap off. Under those are some torx screws holding it on. Once the torx screws are removed, it should pop off. Are you without a cargo net in your trunk? It comes in handy for things that you don't want rolling around back there.
