Backup camera issue

Occasionally when selecting Reverse on my XT6 the center screen will be black with only a camera symbol with a line through it instead of a rear camera view. Shifting to Drive still gives a black screen, no front view either. Restarting the engine may or may not restore normal camera. Dealer found no problem but reprogrammed the feature, with no improvement. Has anyone else experienced this issue, and has it been resolved?

Same issue. I bought my car on June 13. Monday June 15 the camera stopped working about 30-40% of the time with the exact same issues as above. Took it to dealer on June 17. They still have my car. Said the problem is a video processing module and it is on back order from GM. On June 26, they said it would probably be available within a week. Have not had an update from them since June 30.

Update-First service visit for camera problem, dealer checked, found no codes, reprogrammed with no improvement. Second visit a few weeks later, dealer had a bulletin on radio and related issues, performed update per bulletin, no improvement. Third visit last week they said it needs a new camera, on back order, no info on delivery date. Two days ago, instead of the occasional black screen, it had a blue screen that changed to a flickering white screen, no camera views. I doubt a camera replacement will fix the issue, but we will see. My dealer is excellent, but possibly getting little if any useful help from GM tech. Persons on the CT6 section of this forum have experienced what they call the dreaded blue screen.
This issue is not as critical as my horrible CT6 experience with the eight speed automatic, and I hope Cadillac is able to quickly advise their dealers how to correct this issue. We old folks don't love the electronic nightmares.

I doubt a camera will fix it either. This sounds more like a software issue or hardware(computer module) issue. Unfortunately, brand new vehicles with brand new electronics sometimes have these odd issues that are very tough to figure out and a lot of times they are beyond the scope of dealership level repair. So the dealer relies on the engineer nerds at GM to dig in and come up with a solution. Which sometimes takes a long time. Hang in there. They’ll get it fixed eventually

I'm having the same issue. I brought it back to the dealer and the paperwork stated they found a shorted. The removed and replaced the video processing control module, reprogrammed it and I still have the problem. In fact it seems a bit worse now. My service rep said they may need to reach out to engineering for help on this one.

Update on my issue....was told that they had installed a bad micro processor so they got a new one and installed it again. Kept my car for a few days and supposedly tested it but no more than an hour after having it, same issue. Clearly there is a defect and Cadillac needs to get their engineering group involved. As of now I'm in a holding pattern until they hear back from GM as the dealer is tired of looking foolish.

Update as of 8/21/2020, essentially no progress. New rear camera finally arrived at my dealer, left car on 8/14 for installation and to correct occasional failure of hands-free calling. After speaking desired number, sometimes computer voice replied "can't find a phone, please pair your phone" even though it was already paired. Picked up car on 8/17, tech had replaced rear camera, paired his phone and mine to the car, and both worked for trial hands-free calls. All seemed good until today. Black screen in reverse and failure of hands-free call occurred again as before. Entered contact list on CUE, selected desired number and call went through. Called and informed dealer's service manager, will see what happens next. Infotainment systems in 2015 Buick and Chevy and 2018 GMC, admittedly simpler but perfectly adequate for me, have never had any problems.

Update on 9/15/2020. Last Thursday, 9/11/2020 dealer updated software per bulletin or GM tech advice(not clear which is correct), thought that should correct issues. On 9/13 black CUE screen in reverse occurred again. Phone hands-free calling okay so far, but not frequently used. Informed dealer of latest camera view failure, will see what happens next.

Update: I called my local clowns at the dealership and they told me that they just released a software "fix" from GM. The process was to get the software updated at the dealer and if that did not fix the problem that they were to replace the camera controller module. Well the dealer idiots decided they needed 2 days to load the software and called today for me to come and get it. The software updated did NOT work so the next step is they have to order the module from GM. No idea how long that will take, but was told it will take another 2 days with them to replace it. So I wait for the phone call to bring it back for the 4th time. Since the backup camera is critical safety equipment, I am pretty sure I can lemon-law this if it does not work out. I don't want to, the XT6 is perfect other than this issue.

This has become a widespread issue for all 2020 XT5s and XT6s. Replacing the modules has not proven to fix this yet. I’m betting this is a software issue that they haven’t quite worked out yet. But I bet they are working on a fix. These things do take time, unfortunately. And it leaves the dealers in the dark on what actually going on.

I took delivery on September 6, 2020. My camera issues have been about the same as everyone else's. The camera screen goes black, but only sometimes. Also, when switching from the navigation system to the music icon, the screen shuts off, again, only sometimes. I am wondering what safety device will fail while I'm driving. We all get used to the bells and whistles. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I don't expect a better answer than everyone else has received from their local Cadillac dealers. We shall see...

If there is no front or reverse camera image, I would assume the next step would be to look at the video/camera module that runs that stuff.
Take it back to the dealer so they can investigate the next steps to get it fixed.
I own a 2020 XT6 as of 30-JUN-2020. I had this problem intermittently. Dealer replaced one of two camera cables and the camera. Worked perfectly for approximately six weeks and I thought we had it licked....then and as of yesterday it has again begin to fail intermittently. Shocks me that Cadillac would have a quality issue like this on a 60K model for now three months for me. I have owned/leased 15 Escalades/SRX and loved them all. This XT6 camera issue is extremely disappointing. Another trip back to the dealer for my XT6. Not too impressive to have the car in twice in first 90 days. In fact, unimpressive.

Add another 2020 XT6 to this list (purchased 8/20). Dealership replaced rear camera, apparently unaware that the Internet exists and can provide information. Black error screen appeared (after replacement) when simply pulling into garage. IMHO it has nothing to do with the physical cameras, but possibly wiring/software/modules as mentioned above. I'll lodge a complaint with my dealership, but watch this board for any helpful posts. First-time Cadillac owner, and I'm hoping this gets resolved in a manner commiserate with the Cadillac brand. TBD.

I have 2020 xt5 prem lux and have same issue. Headed to second dealership tomorrow. This will be fourth trip and still no fix. I live 70 miles from nearest dealer
Honestly I wouldn’t even bother taking it in until a fix is found and reported on here. You are just wasting your time and their time because there is no fix for this yet.

Another update: Service Bulletin #20-NA-199, as posted by "Cutlass" recently, was performed by my dealer on Oct.7,2020. Everything worked fine until Oct. 19, when I initiated a hands-free phone call. In mid-call the whole CUE system went dead, black screen, no sound. I pressed the volume button and normal features returned. Today, Oct. 23, as I was driving in traffic, system died again, black screen. Reaching my destination, I tried reverse, drive, park, still no sound and black screen with camera symbol with a line though it. Drove directly to my dealer, showed symptom to service writer, used R, D, and P with no change. When I pressed volume button normal radio resumed but no camera views. Sometime later camera acted normal. I have informed my dealer of other owners posting similar issues on this forum, and will be trying to send a message to Cadillac Customer Relations about this ongoing glitch in their CUE system.

I like this! Definitely tell the dealer and tell Cadillac Customer Relations. The more complaints...hopefully the faster the response.
As to the whole CUE going down, that could indicate a hardware failure or possibly indicate the new CUE software isn’t playing nicely with some other system in the vehicle causing different glitches like this.

We just got our first Cadillac about two months ago, an XT6, and we love it, except for the camera display problem. We have the exact same problem as everyone else. Sometimes when entering Reverse the camera display fails. It seems to be getting worse. I've never noticed any other problems. What is the link to Cadillac Customer Relations? The more complaints the better.
I showed the Dealer a phone video of the problem happening and the Service person said he would research the problem. So far no word back, not even an acknowledgement back that this seems to be a common problem.

I also have a XT6 and cameras only work sometimes. I live in San Francisco and really use my cameras multiple times a day for parking. I called my local dealer a few months ago, and they said they didn’t have a fix for it. Last night my 10 year old son hopped out of the car to help me parallel park!
