Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and glad to be a member.
I'm in the process of purchasing a 2008 CTS 3.6L DI AWD with 127,000 km (78,000 miles). The interior and exterior are in phenomenal shape for an '08, however I'm unsure of what to expect repairs and maintenance wise. This is my first vehicle, so I'm basically a "noob", but I will continue to do my research. I'm hoping you guys can provide with any insight or experience on this vehicle.

Thanks,

Ryan

These are just the issues I have receipts for, but I know a lot more work was done to it. Plus, of course, whatever's wrong with it now. I was driving it on the highway when it went into "reduced engine power" mode and allowed me to use only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear afterwards. Could be throttle body issues, or something worse.

Daytime running lights, $265
Headlight, $298
Rear window wiring harness $384
Computer TPMS sensor $195
Electrical issue with ignition $192
Control modules and wiring harnesses $795

have an 08 that I'm now getting rid of after I fix all the common issues I've had

Input output shaft
Daytime running lights
driver side heated seat
driver side auto unlock door
ignition coils ( 2 of the 6 have been replaced)
3 wheel bearings, which means replacing the hub
all 02 sensors

I feel there's 2 more pretty decent things I've fixed but I don't have my car at work today to check my log... for the 25k I put on this car, it's been less than reliable. This was my 4th Cadillac, possibly my last.. sorry to be a Debbie downer, I've heard the 2010's and above fixed many of these issues

I have/soon to had a 2008 Direct Inject AWD with every option, up to 95k miles now. I hope you have better luck than I

If you're buying from a GM dealer ask for the service record. If buying from an individual, ask for all the service receipts they have. I keep all of mine in the glove box. Good habit. I have an 08 DI, RWD, it's been a good car for me. typical repairs, bearings - GM cars an infamous for bad bearings, not just Cadillacs. Some other minor issues, but for the most part it been fun and reliable. Ask when the battery was replaced. If it hasn't yet, expect it to need replacing soon. That's not a flaw, just the end of life for a battery than old, especially in our Ontario harsh winters, they beat out batteries harder than warm climates. Also ask about brakes, how old are they. Again, if not changed, they are likely due. Tires, same. These are normal wear items, but if not in good shape now can cost you a lot if they aren't replaced and have good wear left on them now. Other than that, have fun! Great to have another Ontarian on the board.

Throwing my maintenance history in to the ring here. Bought a 2010 cts4 in 2012 at 94000km. Had to replace
Front differential temp sensor (can't remember when maybe 100000km)
Water pump (at 120000kmish)
Timing chain (at 144000km)

The timing chain really chapped my ass as I have been taking good care of the car with frequent oil changes only mobile1 full synthetic.
Beautiful car, really unreliable in my opinion.
Will not be GM'ing again next time around.
My STS was way more reliable, but not as nice to look at.

I would +1 do not buy this car. I have an 09 bought with 56k miles, was a certified pre-owned 2 years prior, and while I haven't had as many repairs as the above I'm on my way there. Just replaced all the coils/spark plugs and noticed I have oil in 2 spark plug wells so next up is a valve cover gasket replacement. After that I'm selling this bitch. Lovely car though if you have unlimited budget and 2nd car.
