2010 SRX transmission does not shift properly

Took 2010 SRX(78K miles) to Mahwah, NJ Cadillac dealer and explained that under normal shifting(not using sports or manual) the transmission a lot of times fails to upshift, so I took to slowing down to about 5mph, moving the stick to sports and moved it to manual 1st gear. When it shifted into 1st, I could shift it back top normal location and it would shift as designed.

When moved from park to sports transmission shifts normally(albeit sports mode).
When moved from park to manual, it also shifts as a proper manual transmission.

At dealer I was told the price of a new transmisssion($5k +) but was never told that maybe the transmission could be flashed, as I have read in this forum.

Should I ask dealer if any of the tests they did on the trans showed that it had the latest firmware?

Right now I am using it in sports mode all the time.

How to proceed?

Mine, a '13 srx prem is acting like the one Willy is talking about. I have had it 90? days, and have been plotting a course
of action. Don't even know if it is even possible. I was wondering if a computer adjustment can be performed by a qualified tech or is there a chip available ? I have always heard that a trans flush isn't always a good idea I don't really know. This latest group of auto's are remarkably intelligent.
I would like to see more discussion on both of these topics , pleaseplease. I'm on N* also , there's another group of knowledge.
thanks in advance. Ed

A trans flush is never advisable as a "fix", it's just part of good maintenance. I did mine because I just bought the car a few months ago and with 45,000 miles it's time to do it. The improved shifting was just a benefit from doing it. Anyone who believes hat transmission "oil" never needs to be changed is just...
All fluid wears out, 3-4 years is long enough in there.

Does anyone know if these tranny's can improve the shift settings to a harder shift through a trim adjustment? Or something ? I'm pleased those folks that had positive results. I have to believe there is a more efficient way of getting a 'good ' shift rather than 'it's improved' shift, (b.Clinton with fingers inner locked, we..can,,figure this out together.
thanks Ed

thanks Willy92, I hooked up on this thread for the shift problem and found out my '13 is not the only one with a sloppy shift. Trifecta does make a solution. Kinda pricey but it's in my short term purchase future. Maybe Santa will bring it! Or not, I'm the only one here that notices it's a problem. Well that's a surprise. Actually, not.....thanks again Willy92 and everyone else too. Maybe the ATS that is here has a different trans cause it shifts ok.

Replaced drive shaft and transmission is behaving properly close to 95% of the time. Once in a while, if it gets stuck on third, then i slow down, shift it to manual 1st and immediately after it kicks into first, I move the stick to auto and all is well from then on. I do believe the trans is due for new oil, and will report back on behavior once I have it flushed.
Thanks forum

Power flushed transmission. Still issues but if I use it like a stick shift, the transmissions behaves well about 97% of the time. When it fails I believe is due to my not paying attention and not manually shifting it up to 3rd gear. If it get stuck on third, I usually run it a bit until I can stop, it then downshifts to 1st and as I drive again, I upshift it and it works. It has not happened to me yet entering a highway and I take back roads to work with about 7b lights where I can have the car survive. It just feels strange upshifting without a clutch but it does help that it does downshift by itself. The transmission is OK, just the damned TCM is screwed up and no one wants to touch it because they are only offering a change of trans as the repair option. Transmission has power in all shifts.
Thanks

This is a very helpful thread for me and I want to thank everyone for contributing.
I just bought 2010 SRX about 2 months ago and for a week now have been experiencing this shifting problem.
I have ALLDATA on my laptop and looked up the procedure for replacing the TCM and it seems very doable to replace it myself, $547.79 (-$100 core) for the TCM (from rockauto). My main concern is the reprogramming step as I have not yet found the software to do it myself from my laptop (if anyone knows the name of it or a link to get it, I'd greatly appreciate it).
My main question here today is if I do it myself, how much would it cost just to program it and where?

Just found out that replacing the TCM is not necessary because there's apparently a repair kit for it which provides new pressure seals. However the reprogramming or reset is still needed after the repair, although I don't understand why as it is still the same TCM. I think if you're handy and have a garage or a place where to do this job, this would be the easiest fix. For those that don't have a place where to do this yourself (like myself), I'm sure if you just get this kit and have a reliable shop do it for you, it will still cost you much cheaper than replacing the TCM.

I had the same problem with a 2010 SRX for about 7 months. Most independent shops had no real idea as to what the problem was. Finally took it to a Cadillac dealership. They diagnosed it, then asked me if I had recently purchased a new battery. I said yes. Turns out, at least in my case, that when I purchased the new battery and installed it myself, that procedure erased certain computer codes that cause the transmission to operate properly. Cost me $98.00 to have the computer re-programmed. The transmission works fine now.
Side note: If you do the same thing yourself, leave the car running as you swap out the battery, but be very careful. Maybe better still, just pay the $98 bucks. Certainly safer. Good luck.

Yes, a re-program should be one of the first things that you try.
I just want to add that I finally got around to getting the Trifecta tune and, not only does it give more usable power and more responsive drivability, the transmission operation is greatly improved as well! Yes, they do recommend that you switch to 91+ octane gas, something that I did anyway and got an improvement in drivability just from that alone, but the tune adds so much throttle response.
If you don't want to use 91 octane all the time, you can use "eco" mode and it remains stock eco, but, after driving it, you won't want to do that.

This is probably no help and may be unrelated.... but when I bought my used one and changed the tranny oil i was SHOCKED at how black it was...freaking shocked, it took 3 fluid changes to even get it close to a red color, my next oil change after 5K will get another fluid change, its a easy DIY job
