Hello all please be patient if this has already been answered somewhere.
My 06 Escalade ESV rides like a skateboard. Changed front shocks and no help. I can hear the rear shock some times filling with air and releasing air. Not sure which shocks they are. Best solution or starting point? Change to regular shocks? Will the engine light come on if something is amiss? Thanks.

sure your thread will be rerouted to the proper Forum...

How old are your tires?
What tires and wheel size does your Escalade have now?
Are you having issues with the rear shocks or do you just hear them filling at start up or when the ride height actually changes?
I believe changing from the OEM rear shocks would require new springs, shocks and more as well as some of the aftermarket choices not being very good...hopefully more will chime in here soon

Welcome, this is a great Forum and good luck...

My 2006 Escalade sits like a charm on the road.

Although my rear air suspension is defective, it actually only regulates the vehicle height, so it's actually more of a level regulation than an air suspension.

The Escalade has a so-called magnetic drive, which are dampers that have valves inside and change in hardness depending on the driving condition. Of course it could be that your shock absorbers are defective.

But it can also be that your axles are out of alignment, or axle components have excessive wear.

Even then, of course, the car moves in all directions when springing, so the first thing I would do is check to see if there is any play in any of the axle parts. In the next step I would check the alignment And maybe go to a workshop somewhere for a shock absorber test bench.

Ill get them to check thee alignment. Are play in the axels something that is common?

Well wear and resulting play in axle components is common at all cars.

The axles of our cars are sturdily built and are not particularly known for worn chassis, but this can be a cause of poor driving behavior.

If you ket soneone check the allignment, make sure that they check toe, camber and caster.

shouldn't you have AutoRide with rear leveling suspension...I'm not sure you have magnetic ride/MagnaRide...apologies if you do as I only have a similar GMC Yukon Denali with the AutoRide and rear leveling shock absorbers...

Don't your Escalades have Z55/AutoRide road sensing suspensions???...not magna shocks???...OP'er check your RPO sticker (mine is on the inside of the glovebox door) for Z55 but I believe all Escalades came with it for your year...looking for any shocks with "magna" anything in the name might lead you to the wrong place...

I agree that if you bought different type shocks for the front of your Escalade you can effect the carefully engineered ride of your ESV...

Good luck with whatever you choose...

last June I picked up a well cared for 2005 GMC Yukon Denali (same suspension as the Cadillac Escalade) and it drives very nice...good luck with your choice but if that Escalade looks nice and passes all the checks and tests for you, that price is very nice...

The GMT800 truck platform is highly regarded to this day and preferred by many who even bought/owned the newer truck platforms...

Good luck with your choice

Thank you for the thumbs up for an older Escalade. I had a great experience with a Yukon Denali in 2019. I drove a 2019 Yukon Denali XL SLT 4WD rental for week. I had a reservation for a mid size SUV like a Toyota Rav4 or a Ford Edge but all they had was a GMC Denali. Not being familiar with GMC models I said OK thinking it would be a Chevrolet Traverse size vehicle. When the airport rental agent walked us out to the parking garage I saw this 'tank' and said "Suburban". My wife said "How are you going to drive this thing"? Having grown up on a farm and being in the Army I have driven my share of trucks. If I was spending a week in San Francisco and had to use a snug parking garage I would have said no. But being in a Minneapolis suburb with large parking lots all around a this will be fun light went on in my head. It was a joyous week driving this smooth riding bus. Anyway getting back to the 2006 Escalade. I made an appointment with the local shop I take my SRX to for service to have a multi point inspection for $200.00. This shop also sells a lot of used cars and has a reputation for thoroughly inspecting vehicles before they put them on the lot. If I end up buying the Esclade I will post my experience with it after a few months.
