VEHICLE
1968 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
I've ordered and am waiting for delivery on a Chilton Manual covering 1967-1989 Cadillacs. I prefer the Haynes, but the Haynes only covers 1970-1993 and the Factory Manuals seem to run $60+
In the mean time, I've taken pictures of a mechanism below that is broken and needs replacing. It looks like some sort of vacuume mechanism and seems to be choke related.
Basically, the "rod" inside the spring, protruding from the vaccume cylinder is broken right at the point where it enters the cylinder. When the accelerator is applied, the lever pressing against that rod moves back from it and the rod will intermittently fall out of place. Without that rod in place, the vehicle experiences hard starting.
My assumption is that temperature affects how far that rod protrudes which affects the position of the accelerator?
What seems odd to me is that this unit is completely independant of anything else (no hoses or connections), nor does it seem to have adjustment functions.
Anyway, the unit needs to be replaced.
Can someone please identify this part for me?
Also, will the spring come with the new part or is that a separate replacement?
Thanx.
