New to the site, I just bought a 66 coupe deville and the radio isn't working. I'd like to pull the old one out and replace it with a new one. I just can't figure out how to get the thing out without breaking down the whole dash. I've removed the upper dash pad and disconnected the lights and speaker in the dash. I still can't figure out what needs to come apart next to be able to totally remove the radio unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Take the Knobs off they are held on with a small hex set screw. If i remember correctly there are 2 nuts on the shafts that have to come off. I think there is also a bolt on the side of the radio (right ?) that has to come off.
It has been a while since i removed a 66 Deville radio. I have had more 67 and 68 Eldorado's that have the same radio type. What is wrong with your radio? Is it Stereo? If so there is also a separate Multiplexer and Amplifier that is plugged in to the back of the radio.

When you replace the radio with a modern one, make sure you replace the speakers with modern ones as well and do not use the original wiring!

Hey guys thanks for all the input, after much ado, I have decided to just totally forego removing the factory radio. I'm going to run a completely new setup...head unit, speakers, etc off a separate battery and just leave the factory radio in the dash so it looks completely stock. A lot more money than I really wanted to spend starting off, but it's what needs to be done and I definetly need something to listen to!
