What is a good model battery charger to charge through the 12V outlet and is there a portable one that works without plugging into 110V outlet. A buddy of mine had a a portable one that he got out and hooked up to another friends battery and it jump started his car right away. This would be nice if you're out somewhere and and could not open doors from dead battery, you could open rear hatch get charger out and charge at rear 12V outlet enough to open doors and open hood.

My dad and I each got one of these that we keep in our cars to jump start the 12V batteries. These are pretty popular among the Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners.

Hood release is in the vehicle if 12V Battery is dead the electric doors will not open so you can open rear hatch with mechanical key in FOB and then you would have to crawl all the way up to the front seat to open hood. I've read some post's where a charger can be used to get enough power to open doors. Damn electric doors, nice until no power or worst the motor burns out on drivers door.

If the 12V battery goes dead on your Lyriq, a battery charger may not help. The 12V battery is maintained by the 102 kWh propulsion battery. If the 12 V goes completely dead, it will never be the same and may not even be able to charge. If you are planning on storing it for a long period, put a battery maintainer on it. CTEK offers a number of great battery maintainers.

Yes - would only be a temporary measure. The 12V battery capacity will never be the same after a deep discharge - should be promptly replaced.

Sorta. Apparently the China Lyriq folks have reported stalled firmware updates where the vehicle stayed awake, and normal HV to 12V recharge didn't occur - so the 12V batteries saw deep discharge. And other reasons that the vehicle didn't properly sleep.

This is not a Lyriq unique issue - plagues a lot of new EV's with these small 12V batteries and complex vehicle software. Compounded by the 12V battery being impaired from long production to customer transit times, where it wasn't super healthy at customer delivery to start. So unless you always stick a 12V charger on it (not realistic), it can't be guaranteed to not happen until the vehicle and software has matured. Tesla had a big problem early on, but they have solved it. Everyone else still has to work through the struggle apparently.

So, not a bad idea to have a 12V solution handy - should something come up unexpectedly.

so if you find it dead, not from storage but some other reason, you connect the jump battery, it allows you to get in, you keep it connected, can you then start (?) the car and big battery will keep 12v powered enough to get home like ICE or are you still dead in the water ?

Have had my Raven (Black 2023 Cadillac Lyric) for about a month now. Had to have the 12v battery replaced about 2 weeks ago because it went dead...then the other day, the infotainment screen went blank...and the nxt day...BOOM! Completely dead again. In an attempt to be able to put it in neutal, the tow company put a jump starter on it and I was able to start it. Unfortunely, I didnt keep it running long enough I guess, because it went dead as soon as I turned it off. Went out and got a jump starter from Lowes and letting it charge up to see if it will give Raven some start up juice! Im taking it to the dealership tomorrow morning to see if they can fix the issue but Im going to keep the jump starter in the back just in case. I guess this is the cons of getting the first of something, so I'll chalk it up. I LOVE my Lyriq, but she comes with issues like every other women in my life! LOL...

Known issue being experienced by many. Needs a software update at the dealer to correct a module not going to sleep. Not sure why GM can't tell people about this until letting the car strand us. Information below. To avoid, keep your car plugged in overnight.

Also, if you are going to charge things up and bring to the dealer - make sure you caught this point from the other threads. You have to disconnect the 12V battery from the car when you charge it. Otherwise this fault causes the car to draw all 12V system power from the 12V battery and not the HV battery & DC-DC converter, and it will make it difficult to charge the 12V battery. Once it is charged, you can reconnect it and be safe for trip to the dealer as the normal DC-DC system will be connected and powering the 12V devices - and keeping the battery charged also. But don't let the car sit for an extended period while off, and not connected to wall power.
