'03 SLS turn signal - morning delay flash problem

I have a 2003 Seville SLS and the turn signals do not function at first drive in the morning, then begin to function slowly, then will operate normally after about 10 minutes of driving. The 4-way hazards also behave in the same manner. I can hear the tick-tock when they are operating properly and it sounds like it is coming from the middle of the dash.

Does this car have flashers? Do I have a flasher/module/relay problem or do I have a bulb problem? Or is there a relay/module with a 10-pin connector that the turn signals function off of the 4-way hazard lights (together)?

Please advise; as a former mechanic and unable to figure this out, it is driving me insane! I would appreciate any advice anyone could give me and happy to provide further information if necessary.

From my past experience, I would make sure that you have the proper bulbs installed in the rear tail light assembly. One incorrect bulb will mess up the whole system. Also check for corroded bulb sockets.

I have had the top of the dash apart and do not see flashers there. I do hear the tick-tock from the 4-wa hazard button. Do these go bad or is it more likely I have a bulb/ground problem?

Thanks,

Hard to say could be both... Flashers go bad just as easy as bulbs do there's really no way of diagnosing it without tearing the dash apart or checking all the bulbs... Also check the harness in the trunk lid that comes down along the driver side of the hinge that's been known to fray and cause problems too

Now that is stange set of symptoms! Do you get the sense this is temperature related?

That is the hazard switch assembly which includes the Turn Signal/Hazard Flasher Module all in one box with a ten pin connector.

Bulbs and socket corrosion hits me as being very unlikely at all four corners at the same time.

In the rear underseat fuse/relay box find the fuse labeled T/SIG HAZ (15 A) and carefully inspect the blades and socket for signs of corrosion/oxidation.

OK pulled the TSIG/HAZ fuse from the underseat fuse box and it looks OK. Then I pulled the drivers rear turn signal bulb (3057) and replaced it with a spare yellow one (3057NA) that I had. I tried the 4-way hazard and they blinked like they were on steroids! The turrn signals flashed normally. The original bulb looks ok and does light up eventually .... I don't understand how a different bulb would correct the problem?

OK all four bulbs changed and no change in the performance. I still have the problem. Is the only solution left the 4-way/turn signal module that is part of the 4-way button on the center of the dash?

HELP!

Thanks,
Rich

The module should certainly be on the list. BUT, if the module turns out to be the problem, it would be the first time I have heard/read about a failed module in a '98 to '04 Seville.

As Ranger suggested, the chassis ground locations should be clean/bright/tight. But the reservation I have is - the left side lighting (front and rear) shares one chassis ground location and the right side lighting (front and rear) shares another chassis ground location. Both ground locations failing at the same time is about as likely as all four bulbs failing at the same time.

Has there been any recent collision damage repair??

No, the car has never been hit ... not since we owned it and the signals worked fine when we first bought it. We are in Florida and the car has never been exposed to any inclement weather. This one is driving me nuts!
