If you are mechanical, it's not a very big deal. Takes a half hour tops. Nevertheless, it is a PITA.

 

I do agree about the PITA part but 30 mins? I had to do the same thing to get to a leaking hose on the washer reservoir. Floor jack, then jack stand, remove tire, then remove inner fender. I guess you've done it a few times. Next time, I'll get faster. And I'm sure there will be another time. Just waiting on the parking lites to go out.

 

I dont understand why they couldnt have put a little door/cover int he fender liner to make accessing the bulb and lense simple.

 

The dealer's procedure is to remove the entire front bumper. You may want them to replace the other bulb and the sockets too. The sockets are the real problem.

Nice job of documenting the process.

I've extended the socket life on my Envoy by putting a small dab of dielectric grease on the socket before inserting the bulb. One headlight bulb and socket were replaced under warranty and the other side was starting to brown. Put some dielectric grease on both. The browned side is still OK after nearly 5 years. Every time I have a connection apart it gets the grease treatment.

 

I have a 2009 SRX with Sport Pkg and there is a screw on the upper front of the turn signal lens. I assume its for r/r of bulb?

 

Follow up, dropped car off at dealer after work, in addition to telling me the burned out bulb is covered under warranty they said they do a free 41 point safety inspection. Since the car has 40K miles I was curious as to the condition of my brake pads. When we picked up the car they said the car "needs" nothing - everything checked out OK (I recently replaced the air/cabin filters and wiper blades) and had they shown up as needing to be replaced there would have been a fight. They also correctly identified my tire tread wear as I had to replace the right rear tire at 25K miles and the paper work showed the other three tires at 6/32nd and the right rear at 8/32nds. So their 41 point inspection was 100% accurate with no BS added. They also mentioned that the porter noticed the drivers door lever was rough and the chrome peeling (hell yes my wife and I both cut our fingers opening the door and I used a Dremil to burnis off the rough spots). They replaced it with a new lever which nice and smooth.

Needless to say I was pleased with how my local Cadillac dealer responded to what started off as a bad day. I was so impressed we dropped off our 08 Jaguar XK to have them look at my squealing front brakes as don't want to have to drive 45 miles to the only Jag dealer in St Louis.

I take my car to Elco - they do the inspection thing too. they tell me my rear brakes need replacing at 38k miles. So you might re-look at yours.

The chrome drivers door handle on mine has been replaced twice for the same reason in the two years I've had it. 3rd ones a charm.

Moore Jaguar's service department is still operating. I've read where Moore had filed for bankrupacy in Jan sold the Auston Martin franchiase and was shopping around for a buyer for the Jag franscaise, then he pulled the bankrupcy filing and it appears Suntrup could be buying the Jag franchaise.

But over where I live (Belleville IL) there are two great import facilities (ISOM's and DISTLER's) that will work on Jag's and even accept extended warranties. Then when I asked Jack Schmitt Cadillac if they could repair/service our Jag they said yes. What's funny is I called a local Ford dealer (Auffenburg) and they said they service Jag's all the time since most of the innards are Ford based components/designs.

So I have some options for a hign end car like the Jag.

Have you noticed a differnce in the replacement bulb and the original? I had to dremmel off the side tabs on the lamps for the signal lights so that thay would fit in the OEM socket.

 

Had the same issue on my '08. Took the bulb back and the bulb for the '07 had the correct tabs. Must have been an overlap on the model year change over of the sockets.

I didn't remove the tire and only took down enough of the liner to get my arms in. Got it done, but looked like I had been fighting with a cat.

 

LXW- I noticed that too. I just applied a little extra oomph and forced it in. So far so good.:cookoo:

 

I am luvin my 2004 SRX however, ditto on the comment regarding replacing the license plate bulb ... the engineers that designed these convenient replacement items should be fired ... hopefully GM revamped it on the newer model years

 

'07 SRX (20" sport wheels) remove 12 push pin fasteners on front inner panel. to facilitate, turn wheels to left for outer pins, and after removal of outer pins, turn wheels to right to access inner pins. remove panel. T10 torx screws fasten fog/turn lamp cover. remove. Turn lamp holder clockwise to align tabs with notches and remove. replacr burned lamp with any of 3 - " 3057NA, 3157NA, or factory #3757NA. Slight difference in amperage among bulbs, but any can be used. Re-assemble in reverse order. Hardest part? Removing push pins....

 

I read on another site that the Honda Fit has a similar difficult to replace front light bulb.
I told them "Late to the party, Cadillac has had this feature since 2004...."

 

First remove the air cleaner by loosening the two bolts and disconnect the sensor then move it out of the way. Then remove the pop up tabs off the front bumper cover assembly under the hood and on top of the radiator, there's about three on each side and remove the plastic tab connecting the inner grill to the front bumper cover. Then remove the two bolts holding the headlight pod to the frame, make sure to disconnect the wiring to the headlight pod. Then slowly squeeze the headlight pod out of the front gill opening by slowly stretching the front fender cover away from the radiator. You have to slightly rotate the pod out side to side to clear the tabs on the side of the pod close to the outer fender. When you clear the pod you can remove the 6 star screws on the back if you would like to change the bulbs in this pod. Next stop is remove the fog light and turn signal pod which is the next step. Remove 2 7mm bolts on top of the bumper directly above the pod, then remove 2 more 7mm bolts on the side of the pod facing the radiator. This requires a long handle 7mm combination wrench. There is also 3 plastic pop up tabs to remove from the bottom of the bumper under the directly under the pod. After all this is done the pod can be removed from the opening on top of the car. Remove 6 star screws to access the bulbs to be removed. There are also smaller bulbs on the pods that can be individually accessed to replace the bulbs. The signal bulbs might not fit properly even though they are the same number and may require an adjustment with a razor blade to remove the tab on both short ends of the bulb. When the necessary bulbs are replaced just reverse the process. Just bolt the top of the turn signal pod with the 2 bolts loosely and then attach the pop up tabs under the bumper then continue the reinstallation process by retracing the removal steps in reverse order. Gently squeeze the pod back into the fender while holding open thew bumper cover, might be some stretching of the plactic and cracks in the paint that might require touch up paint but you just saved yourself about $125 in labor costs just to change a bulb.

 

Alex........welcome to the forum. :welcome: Going up through the fender well insert to access the bad bulb seems a lot easier to me. I'd probably be tempted to replace the bulb socket while I was in there, based on what I have read here on the forum.

Agree, removing the inner wheel well liner is pretty easy.

 

Due to time constraints, I brought the car to the dealer to fix the front turn signal. $245 !!! About 5 bucks for the bulb, 240 bucks for labor. The
dealer actually apologized for the price. Thanks Cadillac engineers. I'm sick, and don't know how to get this taste out of my mouth. 245 bucks.
I have to earn $400 to end up with $245 cash, but that's another story.

 

That's horrible. Lesson learned I suppose.

 

It is only a 30 minute job, maybe you should have got a cost from the dealer before saying go ahead with the repair.

On my 06 I've replaced either turn signal bulb 5 times in a year. I made it easier the 2nd time. Take all the push pins out of the top part of bumper and grill. Take 2 10mm bolts out of the top. Peel bumper forward carefully with an assistant. The back headlights bolt behind grill personally i cut that whole plastic bracket off the light. Slowly worked headlight out. Shaved down the edges of the lights that go behind bumper basically smoothed it down and added some clear silicone just in case. Now the drl foglight replacement i took the retainer screws off around the cover. Replaced bulb. I left the lower 2 or 3 screws out cause it will be easier to replace next time. Then put everything back together. This just made it way easier for my replacement. You don't have to do this obviously but just a thought. First time took me well over 1.5 hours. Now i can change the bulbs within 5-10 mins each side. And its been 16 months and I've never had any fog buildup or water issues to date. No electrical issues. Besides the usual issue of these trucks the drl turn signal bulb always goes out even with bulb grease and new pigtails.

 

I have a little tip.

Before you change the bulb, try this:

start the car, pull the switch to left or right(depends on which bulb is bad), hit(not too hard!) the turn bulb and front bumper area a couple of times. The turn signal may turn back to normal. Mine last one more year.

 

You would still need to tend to it. This would mean the bulb is loose and thus would flicker on or off each time you hit a bump or hole.

 

After years and years of replacing our own light bulbs in cars, we were flabbergasted when we were told it would be a 2 hour wait as they disassembled my front end to change a measly light bulb. I swear GM did this on purpose to keep their service men employed. It was warranty then, but now I am out of warranty .... we'll see.

 

I changed my wifes left side tunr signal and driving lamp. Stupid, stupid, stupid was the GM engineer that designed this set up. Ridiculous.
