I was searching shift knobs and came across this
Anyone swap their shifter out?

A facebook group member has. His input was that he likes it. It already has the metal shifter linkage bushing and hopefully that bushing doesn't need to be replaced again.
However it doesn't address the issue of the shifter assembly mounting bracket bushings. That's a separate issue and the creative steel bushing for that location are only a temporary solution. The banging under the shifter on bumps in cold weather will return.

SNIP The banging under the shifter on bumps in cold weather will return.
Damn, mine just started doing this a few weeks back. I was like WTF? I thought something snapped. Coincidentally at the same time that 1-2 shifts when cold seem better.
This reminds me of when my EX went through menopause. I had no idea what was gonna happen next!

When you say "dropping the tranny" do you mean just disconnecting the driveshaft, removing the trans mounts and tilting it back enough to gain access above or do you mean actually removing it from the vehicle?

Pop the console trim and remove the boot, shift knob, and shifter seal, pull exhaust, pull driveshaft, remove transmission crossmember, unbolt rear shifter support, and then lower the tailshaft of transmission to tip the engine and transmission down. It's a tight squeeze, but you can get in there to disconnect and remove the shifter from the transmission.

Ahh, this is exactly what I was picturing in my head. A bit of a PITA but not terribly bad. Definitely start on a Saturday; just in case.
