Hi! I am a new member and owner of a 2004 SRX.
I have searched among the posts looking for information on adding XM to my vehicle. There are many posts about adding it to nav equipped and base radio cars, but none for my specific question.

I have the six CD changer and Bose radio system [U2S and U57 plus UE1 which I guess is "OnStar".]. I would like to know what is required to add XM to this system. Is it just add an XM receiver and "plug & play" or is there additional wiring that needs added?
Thanks for any replies.

If your RPO code sticker doesn't have U2K, (XM radio) you can install a factory XM system, but it's going to cost a small fortune. You need a XM receiver, a harness from the head unit to the receiver, an antenna, and a harness from the XM receiver to the antenna. It would be a lot cheaper to install an aftermarket receiver that transmits the signal into an FM receiver, but it's your call.

If you want to go the factory route, you can buy the components far cheaper from an online GM parts website than a dealership. Start with gmpartsdirect.com. It's important to have a shop manual to help with trim removal and component locations too. GM shop manuals are available from Helminc.com Trim removal tools are a must to minimize damage during the installation. They're cheap and well worth the cost. Griots has a nice set of nylon trim tools that do a great job. You can find them at griots.com.

2004s (I'm pretty sure this applies to the SRX as well) had an ugly wart antenna that requires drilling through the roof to mount. (For the XLR, it was mounted on the rear decklid.) I opted for a small, aftermarket magnetic antenna that sits obscured on my dash and works great. I got it from crutchfield.com. I needed to modify the connector harness on the facotry XM receiver, but that wasn't hard. If you need the procedure, I posted it in the XLR section under "wartless XM antenna installation" or something like that. Search is your friend.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I sort of figured that would be the case. I'll probably go the aftermarket route . . . my daughter has an extra Sirius receiver she would give me . . . . if she can remember where she put it.:bigroll:
