Anyone in the Chicagoland or Southern WI around?

Maybe we can meet at a local dragstrip like Byron, or Great Lakes or ???

Like a test and tune nite and just go racing!

I guess I better start working on something here!
Let me know if I can help. Now I have to decide which car to bring!
Which car? Is that another Cad I see?
Yup! Check out my "First kid on block" thread for a nice pic.
Yeah, you better start working on something! We've got 3 CTS's ready to make the trek up to WI caravan style.... might get a CTS-V to lead the pack.
I think we are going to meet at the Jefferson Co. swap and show. If that's what we want, we need to pick a day. The info for the meet is somewhere above, courtesy of NODIH. Let's check it out and start picking. Also there is a meet in Elkhorn. I'll be there too.

Local hotels:
http://jeffersonswapmeet.com/lodging.shtml Dave and I live on opposite sides of Delavan. He lives east around 5 miles, I live west around 5 miles.

If you have any Family Radios, we can talk on them, but likely the frequencies will be very busy. If you are into ham radio like me, I will have my ham rig in the car by then. Shooting for 20M and 2M, maybe 440 if I can figure out how to mount them all without damaging the Cad. I have a GRMS radio too, these are higher power than FRS radios, require a license ($85 from FCC for 10 years) and can be had at Walmart or online for around $60. Midland has some 5watt ones that are highest power of them all. Great for this sorta thing. If you want to spend the $$. My ham radio callsign is N0DIH.... But you all knew that, right?

The Byron dragway is down around 55 miles south of Delavan. Take I43 west to I90, take I90 south (east) to the I20 bypass/I39 turn off. Take Bypass US20 to Main St Exit, go south, follow signs to Route 2. Look for nuclear power plant plumes, the dragway is about a mile from it, just off of route 2 a little ways. Easy find, just follow the steam...

The Union Grove dragway is more east, but the talk is Byron is a grippier track. Big names have and still do come to both.

IF we want to get some time there.... Might be too much for a weekend with the swapmeet.

Parking is around $3-$5, and it is like $5 to get in the gate. Bring walking shoes, this place is big and takes forever to get around. It just keeps going and going...

Guys from out of town, will you be driving in day of or day before?

What is the word on who is coming? We are getting closer to meet time!

I might put my 20M whip on the car and a flag on it just to help people find my ride.

Gotta figure out how to get us all together.

Last year Arnie and The Tameless Tiger was there, so that would be a cool meeting place. http://www.arniebeswick.com/photos.htm

We can plan on meeting at the grandstands, that is one of the easier to spot places to meet. Just need to somehow know what people look like.

Do we want to PM each other will cell phones if you have em?
Well, as of right now, I 'm scheduled to work both days! I have asked for one or the other off, but haven't heard yet. Weekends are big at work. I guess I find out soon.
well, it moved a few miles further north than anticipated... and I'm supposed to be somewhere with the lady that weekend. That does sound like a good weekend for car nerds though.
Dress for rain, it looks to be wet Saturday and Sunday.

Figures it has been dry all week....

Dress appropriately.....
Local weather says it will be dry in the morn, wet the rest of the weekend.

Anyone still planning on making it?

Call me on my cell if you are: two two 4, seven one five, niner five one one.

We probably won't get up there till early afternoon at best, we have a committement with my daughter this morning and will not be able to escape till later, and the place is around 30 min from me.

Being the weather isn't the greatest, maybe we can try again at the Elkhorn meet later on in the summer and possible get more of the BaDbodies crowd too.

Tom
Tom, How did it end up? The weather was pretty brutal down in the Chi-Burbs... windy, rainy, and cold.
It wasn't too bad, didn't get any info that anyone was coming. Wet after 2pm, just drissly, not a downpour, but enough to be annoying.

We'll have to hook up somewhere in the middle, maybe a dragstrip night or something.

I passed on a set of Alum 1995 LT1 heads for $150. Just needed more info and I didn't have it. Probably a dumb move.... They were bought by a guy for a Gen 1 and he then realized he couldn't use them, so he was trying to sell for $200. He offered them to me for $150, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to lose the flow with them, and didn't know if I could get it back easy enough.

Got a magnetic base dial indicator to do my posi this summer, $20 new....
I'm going to tentatively plan on attending the elkhorn meet. Probably just on saturday, or maybe I'll find a B&B with a golf course nearby. 82 miles away from home for me. Not bad for something fun to do on a saturday. The gf probably won't be excited walking around car parts all day, but it could be fun anyway :)
