Windshield wipers won't turn off - WTF?

So I was using the wipers today and for the first 40 minutes everything was cool. Then after parking for 30 mins, I come back to the car, and I can't turn it off! I can make them go faster, but other than that it's the slow setting or nothing. At one point, traction control also turned off, but when I turned the car on and off that was fixed - the wiper problem, however, was not.

What should I do? Is it an overheated relay? Which relay can I pull? Thanks!

I am readyy to troubleshoot this problem. I have read through the pdf, and I wanted to ask -

1 - what is the best way to remove the windshield wiper motor connector?
2 - what is the best way to remove the windshield wiper switch? (i assume that this is the stalk on the column?)
3 - what is the best way to remove the windshild wiper motor

Just for information, my windshield wipers stay on for a good 5 minutes or so even when I use the "mist" function. And then they stop at whatever point they want (usually not at the down position). Can't wait until I have time to fix this.

I have a similar problem where the windshield wiper solvent comes out non stop when I turn on the wipers. Seem to me more like a problem in the switch.

Yes, I replaced it myself. I don't recall the exact procedure but you need to take off the cover where the cabin air filter is, and then the removal of the motor is relatively straightforward. Once you get the motor out you can separate the cover with the electronics and replacing it is straightforward. I got the replacement cover from Luke@Lindsay Cadillac, IIRC it was around $100.

Edit: I just found a video of a guy pulling the assembly out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bpGJ319S9Y ...that's basically the meat of it.

Thanks for the info! My wipers went nuts two days ago. I just ordered the wiper cover for $75 shipped off e-bay (genuine GM).

This was a common issue for the C/K trucks as well. The controller motor would freak out and you just needed to replace the electronics board.

Simple fix. But still this should not be an issue. GM paying attention!?!?

I replaced the switch and problem solved. Under $50.

Not my video, but gives a good overview of what to do.

A couple install items mentioned are wrong, but he is close and it is a good visual. The big thing is that the passenger side plastic "rain cover" has to come out completely before pulling the driver side. At least it was much easier for me and gave a chance to fully clean the rain/air/drain channels underneath.

Wipers Won't Turn Off

On yesterday evening, I jumped in the V for a pizza run. I noticed that both of my front door courtesy lights were staying on, no matter what.

This morning I drive to work in a drenchi g downpour. Now the wipers stay on no matter the position and the darned door lights are still mocking me, as well.

When I activate the washer, it runs smoothly. In the off positioin, it's erractic. In the high position, it's normal also.
