windshield washer issue....

788 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Ranger
I hopped in the car yesterday and unknowingly popped the button on the end of the windshield wiper stalk out of the stalk. I cant find the button and the wipers and pump run constantly. I was able to get the wipers to stop by slipping a piece of cardboard between the contacts but need a new button. Can I just buy a new button from the dealer? Is this something that doesnt require removal of the stalk?

Wow somedays its the dumbest stuff that gets ya.:banghead:

I cant help you,but you should show what kind of car you have in your bio.,good luck with your problem.

Forgot to suggest rockauto.com
Also check GMPartsDirect.com but without a make/model it'll be very hard to do much else......
No you can't just replace the button. I just went through this on my daughters '02 SLS. You need to replace the entire switch. I had her pull the fuse to shut them down till I could get around to fixing it. The fuse is under the rear seat if your cardboard fails (depending on the year).
:banghead: I apologize for the lack of vehicle info. More of a reader than a poster, I think I fixed it.
The car in question is a 02' Seville SLS.
I was worried this was gonna be more than a simple fix. Guess its time to do some forum searches as to the do it yourself repair. Im pretty sure this one of them times the dealer almost giggles like a schoolgirl when handing me the bill.
I appreciate the input.
Thanks,
Bob
Yeah it was a bit of a job. I got the covers and switch off, but could not get at the plug as it wrapped under the column and then disappeared. It looked like I was going to have to drop the column and I did NOT want to do that. I got creative and disassembled the switch. Unplugged each of the 5 wires from the old broken switch and plugged then into the new switch and reassembled it while still plugged into the column somewhere. Unconventional, but worked like a charm.
