I need to have my 2012 Srx windshield replaced. Just received a quote of $550 for an OEM windshield. Insurance will not cover an OEM.....
Wondering if anyone has used a generic replacement? Not sure which way to go. Thanks!

I have had 3 windshields replaced by Safelite in the past 6 years and had no issues with the install or job performed.
OEM replacement or after market??
Do you have rain sense wipers?

Here you go!

Will your insurance pay what they normally would then you pay the difference?
I had to replace the windshield in my wife's BMW and it has rainsense, I called around and found a wide range of prices for it from OEM to aftermarket. I went with an aftermarket and everything is as good as OEM in my case.
Yes I have rain sense wipers....

Then $550 is a good quote.

That may or may not be true. Acoustical and other treatments are not normally up to par on aftermarket units.

I would suggest you to tell your agent that you "insist" that they cover the GM OEM costs... if not then tell them nicely that you probably should start looking for another Insurance Company that will cover OEM parts! In fact when my vehicle ever gets in an accident I require that ALL the parts be replaced with OEM parts!

That could very well be very true! I.E. The sound deadening (insulated glass) might not be up to the same quality. I just talked about another problem with a NON-OEM windshield issue in another thread last night. The (clear area) in the window shield didn't align up properly and partially blocked the camera's direct line of sight. That dealer had to replace that NON OEM brand SRX windshield because the Driver Awareness pkg. wasn't working properly.

IMO most Insurance companies are only out to save $$$. To me most don't seem to care if the parts they use don't meet the OEM's stricter speciation’s. I would truly not want to buy a used vehicle if I knew that the windows or other parts were not replaced with OEM parts. BTW: A lot of the insurance companies will try to tell you that ALL their products are equal to or OEM "Equivalent" and meet or exceed the quality of the original manufactures parts. Don't believe them!

Glad to hear you only use OEM Parts too!

BTW: I have never experienced my insurance rates going up after a window replacement and I have had a number of my vehicles windows replaced. I highly recommend carrying window damage coverage to everyone. It is very inexpensive for that coverage. It is just a matter of time before you have a stone hit the windshield especially if you drive on the Thruway a lot.

I had the rain sense glass on my 2012 srx replaced by Santa Fe Auto Glass, the cost was $265. I am very satisfied with both the workmanship and with the glass. No insurance was involved. I am located in the greater Kansas City area.

It's been on the car for 5 years and I've had no issues so I guess it must be true. Even the rainsense feature works just like it did before.

I had my windshield replaced because the "delamination" was happening to my 2010 several years ago.
Your'e "OEM" is not made by cadillac or GM. Aside from some chinese glass out there the aftermarket glass is most likekly made on the same assembly line as the "OEM" . The only difference is the bug on the corner of the glass dose'nt say "GM". Check to see who made the glass originally. The name should be on your gass in the bottom corner. Pilkington,ppg,Gardian,etc..

Not sure where you live, but that sounds good.

Here is what Bill Dodge Cadillac in Westbrook Maine quotes for the same issue.

$830 - OEM Windshield
$150 - Windshield labor
$70 - Rain sensor
$100 - Rain sensor repair

$1,150 - Total

What's hilarious is that the other Cadillac dealers I called (called two) told me that the rain sensor is included in a true GM OEM windshield. They both quoted me $800ish for everything I listed above. So if you're getting it for $550, consider yourself lucky.
Went to Safelite ,had no problems and I have Rain sense.
Use OEM. To make sure its OEM they installed, it will have the GM Sticker in the lower passenger side of the glass. As far as insurance, it will clearly state on your policy that they can substitute after market parts at there discretion. You must insist you want OEM. I told State Farm, if they want to put non OEM, then charge me non State Farm rates. Its no big deal to force the issue with your insurance company. Just like medical claims, you must submit and fight for what you want, otherwise, they win and make $$ off you. Typically, your rates will not be affected by a replacement glass if you have glass coverage, you should be fine. It is not treated like an accident. I have even had a rear window replaced on a car due to the windshield wiper etching the glass with dirt, big scratched etched rainbow where the wiper runs. it has been running on intermittent for who knows how long on the escalade till I noticed it.
Glad to see your post! Just moved to the KC area (Raymore) and during the move developed a crack in center of my windshield. Could you give me additional details about your experience with that company? Am I right to assume the $265 covered replacement of entire windshield? How long did it take them to complete the job? Thanks!
