I know alot of people have put 275 gsd3 on their stock rims, I'm wondering if the tech avon m500 will fit.
DOES ANYONE KNOW???
I am going to buy new tires tomorrow and the avons have good reviews, higher treadwear and are about $50 cheaper per tire.

I'm running the Avon 550 245/45Z R18's. After 24k miles, no discernable wear. They are a little noisy in the highway, but not as bad as the runflats. I rotate front to back every oil change [ about 4k-5k miles]. Tirerack.com doesn't mention that the tires are directional-they can't be crossed on rotation. I have a spare in my trunk on a spare V wheel and it fits in the wheel tub in the trunk [barely] when turned upside down. I did remove the wheel tub liner and brace.

You must use the All Season Avon's if you want a matched set. The Tech500's don't come in 245/45/18 unfortunately.

Does the 275/40 look wider? does it help with traction? I have the gforce and if they will fit on the rear I will change them. I guess that would also mean I would have a extra set of stock size.

you can use the tire size calculator here
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
to see how close the tires you want to buy are to stock size

Avon's site
http://www.avontyresusa.com/tires/tech_m500.html
says rim width range for 275/40 is 9-11", as does the GS-D3 page
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Eagle+F1+GS-D3

Some here (as you read in the hot topic sticky) have 275 on stock rims. You likely are the first to try 275 Avons. Ask Dreamin, he'll know.

You can run the 275's in the back and the 245's in the front. Avon Tech come in 275/40's but NOT 245/45. You will have to run a different tire in the front and thus a mismatched set of tires. I would not recommend this. :helpless:

I'm no tire expert, however running two different compounds and tread patterns on the front and rear of your V, in addition to looking like crap, would certainly effect your handling. If your goal is to have 245/45 and 275/40 than choose another make such as GSD3's or the Falkens.

I have the Avon 550s so maybe you could try the 245/45 550s in front and the 275/40 500s in the rear. I would compare the tires as this may be your option.
I bought my 550s because they are an all season tire and the 500s say they are a summer tires. The treadwear is 360 on the 550s and 280 on the 500s so you should get better traction and more wear on the rears. I can tell you the 550s don't grip very well compared to the stock tires but they ride softer.
The 550s and 500s appear to look the same from the side so you should be ok (unless you want them for winter driving). I would go for it if I were you, why not.

*After I just typed this I noticed the tread pattern is a little different but the 550s come in the exact sizes you want but I'll bet you don't want an all season tire. I wish I had the 275s on the rear as I'm sure they grip a bit better.

tirerack.com has Avon 550s in 245/45/18 and 275/40/18..... I would assume they would fit fine similar to the other folks running the same setup with other manufactures.
In his original question he asked if the Avon 500's would fit, hence my answers. If your considering All Season tires for the V then obviously you're no longer concerned with handling. The 550's are available in the mixed sizes you listed, 500's no.

I'm currently on a full set of Falken Azensis ST115 - 255/45's. The ride is VERY quiet and wet handling is superb. Dry handling at the limit however is NO WHERE near the GSD3's. Squirmy is the best way to describe this. They have a taller sidewall and actually fill the wheel well and look great. Just don't handle like the GY's. The ONLY reason these tires are on the V was to ensure that when my dealer measured my tire tread depth it would be a non-factor. I picked these up nearly new on ebay for $405 delivered vs. $680 new.

thats an amazing deal,
I wanted a whole new set of gsd3 but when you put 275 on the rear compared to the avon500 which are the summer tires, the gsd3 are around 280 bucks more and will wear faster than the avon.

To summerize:

The M500 275/40/18 will fit on the stock rims in the rear (tire section width is within 0.1" of the D3s). But there is no 245/45/18 for the front.

Running 245/40/18 F and 275/40/18 R will definitely screw up the Stabillitrac, and most likely the ABS computer. And running different tire compounds F vs. R is a really bad idea.

You can run:
M500 245/40/18 F and 275/35/18 R - which is a much shorter tire, i.e. huge fender gap.
M550 245/45/18 F and 275/40/18 R - but thats an all-season
