Automaker considers building coupe based on the Mustang

Ford has acknowledged studying a Mustang-based Mercury. A company insider says the Lincoln proposal is more serious.

The Lincoln would have a unique interior and exterior. But it would share underpinnings with the Mustang, which was redesigned for the 2005 model year to great fanfare.

Yep. And IMHO, the first Gen was better looking than the Mustang.

The first Cougar was a luxury mustang and it had SWEET taillights that blinked in progression from the inside out.

In the 80's the Cougar and the T-Bird were the same car. I had one of those Cougars and loved it.

The Capri, if I'm not mistaken, actually got REALLY small and became a two-seater before it dies..

A new Cougar would be nice - but not like the one that just went away. The Cougar should be a luxury sport like it always has been. The 80s Cougar/Thunderbird was very nice.. The early 90s was even nicer, to me...

Maybe it will force Cadillac to finally catch up and bring out a sports coupe. Everyone else has one. If Cadillac had a decent sports coupe, I wouldn't have to resort to idolizing that Infiniti G35...

I think a Cougar would be a better car to base off the Mustang.

I'd use the outgoing T-Bird as a platform for a Lincoln.

I totally think that Lincoln (and Cadillac) should bring back their sports coupes!!!
But if they based it off the Mustang, wouldnt it be too small?

This is very interesting , Remeber 05 Mustang Came from the Lincolin LS (dew98 platform), Lincolin LS dies , leaves Mustang , Mustang gets knocked up and produces a new car for lincolin ....

technicly IRS from the LS can bolt up to mustang fairly easy....so it will probably arrive with the new lincolin merc car....

As for Capri , Mcomibe , we did get the Capri you all enjoyed in the 70s(1970-1978) , very nice cars and if i remeber right ours even got the colonge V6 ....but im not positive on that ....Capri then went to the Mustang as sandy pointed out in 79 , ran till 86 ....

Then after 5 years of no capris we got the 91-94, capri became a 2 seat sportscar built by Mazda Austraila off the european 323 , it was even avaible as a turbo , but it was never respected becuse it was front drive , it enjoyed about the same poplarity as the 90-91 Lotus Elan S2...

Another Interesting Capri note is Ford is Studying bringing the Capri back to europe under the living Legends program , which as you notice gave birth to such things as the new GT and the Mustang
