Wanted to update everybody on the status of my car search.

I had looked at a 1998 Deville Concours at a dealership here that was 5500.00. I wanted to talk to someone there about trading the Hyundai for it, but the truth is the place had the worst customer service Ive ever seen. No one ever came out to assist me and when I went inside, they just handed me the keys and told me to go look at it. If you dont make me want the car then I have no reason to believe your going to do everything you can to get me the best deal. The car had little whisps of smoke coming out anyway so I didnt trust it much.

So I began searching for something under 6k or so that I could afford with the trade of my car and a little extra cash, and so far Ive come upon a 1994 Infiniti Q45 with only 83k in fantastic shape at my buddies dealership, and various 1998 Cadillac STS's I am investigating on ebay and elsewhere. Right now the Q seems like the best bet since it will be reliable and has very low mileage for its age, but if a dealer with an STS cuts me a deal then Ill go that direction.

I also considered 95 XJRs and 97 Mark VIIIs, but the STS and Q are the best balance of what Im looking for in a cheap car right now.

Oh boy when Jesda finds out about the Q45.....

They (Q45's) are nice cars. I really like their subtle luxury. I dont know too much about them. But I do know that they have an advanced 32 valve V8, RWD, and they have a quartz analog clock in the center of the dash.

Actually its funny you mention that. Jesda has been instrumental in convincing me that the Q is a solid choice, along with Wes who frequents this forum quite a bit as well. They are both a tremendous wealth of information on this car.

Is that the year with the 4.1 DOHC motor, or is that the next generation?

Never experienceing the Q, I'd say the STS, but the Q seems like a solid choice from what JEsda has had to say about it, I have one criticism, the styling is VERY bland.

It looks like a refridgerator, but its also just about as reliable. Thats my main concern. This car wont be mine for long because Ill be moving on to something nicer within a few months, at which point it becomes my moms car again.

Unless I can find an STS with less than 100k, I simply do not trust it.

Why the Q45 over a LS400? I think the LS400 is superior in basically every way. Just my opinion though.

The LS400 of the same era looks very dated and demands more money than the Q45 does.

I was waiting for someone to ask that.

Honestly? They are too much money, or they are too rough to trust. I would love an old 740 or 750 but that is just asking for trouble if it has more than 90k miles or so.

The only exception would be a W126 Mercedes S Class, which Im looking into.

Yeah I know how much you would love a W140 but its just so complex and expensive and its not as reliable as a LS400.

Thats depending, mine's never had any trouble, and although it has rarely been broken in (its on 44,500) i doubt it will ever let me down, Claire's put her plans on ice for a new car and si driving around in that right now.

I'm not in the same situation you are though. If I could afford one now, I wouldnt buy one just because its so complex and repairs and upkeep is sooo expensive.
