This is something I just noticed a couple of weeks ago. I think it's either a build error or a poor rebuild from a prior accident which I have not heard about.

That's my left rear door. Notice how the ashtray door opens from the left side, and the power window switch is in front of the ashtray.

Now contrast that to my right rear door. Notice how the ashtray is in front of the window switch, and the ashtray opens from the left side, again. To match the other side, the left ash tray door should open from the right, and the right ash tray door should open from the left side. And the labels on the window switches are in the correct location, not reversed.

lol, its neither.

At one point that piece was removed, in order to remove the door panel, there are screws behind that that need to be removed, maybe the switch was faulty, who knows...

Someone installed it backwords when they put it back in. The switch letters are correct because the switch unscrews from the unit, T-15 Torx bit, there are 2 screws/washers that hold them in, and the switch can "fit" either way since its the same shape.

All that is needed to remove that is a flat head screw driver, on the shorter end of the ash tray plate, normally facing the front if you push the screw driver between the vinyl and the metal, there is a notch, further past that notch is the metal clip, to release the clip you just push the screw driver in more, since that one part is reversed, it will most likely be on the *back* of that side.... if not, its on the other side. One part has a piece of metal that slides into place, the other has a clip, so to put it back in, you first slide the 1 side in then push the other side stright down to make it clip into place.

Good! I know my right rear window doesn't work. It died a while after I bought the car. I never touched it though, never took any of the door panels apart. Now on the left side, the body shop might have taken that door apart for some reason when they were fixing my driver's door after a DEL SOL backed into it last August...
