Since 2003, I have owned five ESV models. Even though I am single and have no children, I have always purchased the ESV over the standard Escalade. Eventually plan to go from my 2013 ESV Platinum to the new model in a couple of years.

For me, I always like the looks, cargo capacity, wheelbase of the ESV.

Just curious, why did you purchase the standard over the ESV and vice-versa? Welcome your input.

I chose ESV because it was the biggest cargo capacity in GM which shrank from 137.4 cu. ft. in the 2014 ESV to 120.5 cu. ft. in the new 2015 ESV, but still falls short of my 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD Limited which has 150 CuFt.
We fill it up migrating North and South each Season. Plus we have done a number of long distance trips ( one 3500 miles vacation recently from Key West to NYC and back to South Florida) with 6 Adults, and Luggage for a month and my electric scooter towed in a U-Haul.

We have had two previous Tahoe's and now a 2015i, all SWB. These are large trucks physically, and maneuvering them in tight spaces, which can be common in busier cities and areas, can be a chore with the ESV. I would love to have the extra interior space, but the reality is that we would have a use for it only very infrequently. To us, it is not worth having to deal with the extra largess on a daily basis. That said, I am upset that GM took out so much of the interior space from the new models. FWIW, I also tend to favor the exterior proportions of the SWB, especially in the new model.

with the new power folding seats if you actually plan to have adults sit in the third row the short wheelbase is almost not even an option - the floor height has moved so high that your knees are above your hips and it's totally uncomfortable.

That is very interesting, I did not know the cargo capacity has been reduced in the new model.

Yes, they do not mention it, but they raised the floor is probably for the reclining seats.
that may be why there was so much discussion about removing the third row seats months ago.
And tagceo mentioned that adults might have difficulty in the third row with the raised floor as your knees are higher than your hips.

Grew up doing road trips with my dad back and forth from Calgary to Vancouver in his Suburbans... Best memories of my life, loved the body style of the suburbans.

When I got old enough to buy my first vehicle, it had to be that chassis. So went with a Escalade ESV... LOVED it. The cargo area, sturdyness of the vehicle, handling, etc... is just AMAZING.

Been through a couple ESVs since (loved em all), once around a year ago my dealer set me up in a normal escalade for 2 months and HATED it. No room for work stuff, even groceries were a pain (I ended up removed the back 3rd row of seats which worked, but sucked when I needed the seats for passengers). On top of that too I was scared of rolling the vehicle.

Got my 15 ESV coming in any day now, STOKED!

We had the SWB first and there was always an issue with cargo space when we traveled. We soon took the third row out and left it out. When we upgraded we didn't even consider another SWB. I'm quite happy with my ESV but I like the looks of the SWB better. I'm considering a SWB when we upgrade to the 15 because the rear seats fold flat. I'm going to try and find one with a second row bench to help me decide but I have a feeling we will end up with another ESV.

This will be my first Escalade and it is bigger than our MDX (wife has a new MDX and I just got rid of an E63). In my opinion I think the ESV looks too long, but I do think the 2015 ESV looks way better than prior models. I will try the short box and throw a roof carrier on or rear hitch storage for traveling. Looking forward to the Escalade in general as the others in the class haven't had a full makeover in years (excluding RR of course).

ESV looks a bit goofy, drives a bit slower, and a bit harder to park. If I open a second business as a funeral director, I'd get one to transport coffins in style. But other than that, no. :)

Pretty sure both GL550 and FFRR were redesigned in 13. But yeah, even with the GL update the interior styling isn't quite up to par as their other vehicles.

This is a big reason why I'm so attracted to the FFRR, there is no third row. I don't need one, I just want how my old Escalsde was were I could leave the third row out full time. It was a pain to store those seats too. The problem I have with FFRR is I cannot bring myself to order a base model of anything, I have to order the highest trim or it eats away at me, haha. So now we are talking RR Autobiography which is 140k before tax. At that price, there is a lot of other tempting vehicles on the market. Not SUVs though, which is what I'm partial too. I'm waiting for a few minor features to come to the FFRR before I buy it. For that price, I want it to be perfect.

If you are buying though, you should at least look at the Range Rover HSE it's closer in price to the Escalade, but only if your buying. Lease rates are double or triple of what you'll pay on a escalade for some reason. Makes no sense since they depreciate quite slowly due to limited availability. I guess the banks factor the depreciation more aggressively.

This is my second ESV. Longer wheelbase = better ride. More room in the third row and a lot more space to carry cargo behind the third row. The shorty has little cargo space behind the third row. For a few more $$$ I feel there's more value in an ESV.
