The key phrase was "...the problem is that Cadillac is not BMW".

Whether or not the ATS/CTS is "as good as a BMW" is irrelevant present day. The general public doesn't view Cadillac as a BMW competitor, at least not yet. Yet Cadillac went ahead and priced these cars at BMW levels.

The reason why the 1st gen and to a greater degree the 2nd gen CTS were such a sales success in the earlier years was because the CTS filled a gap as that vehicle was kind of a 'tweener. Near BMW 5 series at a 3 series price. Like Buick is doing today (according to the article), Cadillac filled a gap. Now Cadillac is trying to go toe to toe with BMW, yet they still haven't earned the street cred, if you will.

Again, I am not debating whether the ATS/CTS are legitimate competitors to the 3/5 series. It doesn't matter what any of us think. We're a minority, what matters is the general public doesn't think so, and that's what ultimately matters.

BS.

Buick had an incredible stroke of luck striking it rich in China. They sell EVERYTHING in the GM lineup with Buick badges on it in China ... And sell a ton of them. Most are sub Chevy-level crap.

The points about the ATS and CTS being over-produced are right on though
