a '99 Grand Prix GTP (blown 3800) or a '93 DeVille?
would there even be a comparison? I know the 2 cars are based on total differnt ideas though....

I think a V8 will out-pull a 4 or 6 anyday. It's all about the torque.Infamous Lac said:But when there is Force Induction involved thats not the case.
Torque is usually higher I think than the actual HP, ie. a 5.0 '90 Mustang was rated at 225 hp and 300 ft. lbs of torque. As for a 4.9 not having any chance, well it is rated at 275 ft lbs of torque, very close to a Northstar and I am very satisfied when I mash and the gas, it doesn't take much to be "up in smoke."Infamous Lac said:And force induction cars have lots with the right setup. My Eclipse had 13lbs more torque to the wheels than hp and and it put down 285 WHP at 19psi. Also I am pretty sure the GTP is rated at 260lbs of torque stock. The 4.9 rated at 200hp has no sort of a chance.
The torque of the 4.9 is rated stock at 275 foot pounds and if a guy is interested he can get more out of it. The horsepower is not as much a part of the equasion as torque when it comes to MOST kinds of driving. When I dyno engines I'm always more interested in torque than in horsepower numbers.Infamous Lac said:The 4.9 rated at 200hp has no sort of a chance.
Well I put 35-40, but it is at least 35 LB FT of TQ. I got a couple of dyno sheets...lemme see if I can find them. You might not have felt them that much, cause your dad's GTP might have a bit of KR (knock Retard). GTP's are very suseptible to KR, and that wuld cause a bunch of timing to be pulled back.don't think the pully on the s/c 3800 adds 40ft lbs. whjen my father put it on his car, we noticed a improvment, but, personally not a real big one.
There are NO different heads that I know of Wes! I ported my heads and did a few mods that I use to make motorcyle heads breath better...I also did some minor reshaping of the throttle body to make it work a little more efficiantly...It seems like the car will smoke the tires as long as I hold the throttle to the floor...It's a lot stronger than stock.elwesso said:There are some different heads, KC can tell you more.....
Basically most mods you gonna want to do are going to have to be custom.
How long will it keep spinning, funny you ask that today because today I squared off with my dentist and good friend who has a new Honda 2000 convertible. We were at the lights together and he said I would not stand a chance! I told him no 4 has the torque of mine. I don't have a glamorus story for you but when the light turned green we slowly chugged along and I was ready to hit it hard in case he would, he never did but while doing about 10 mph I hit it to show him about the wonders of torque, and I STILL spun to a healthy squeel! Needless to say at the next lights he said "that thing moves pretty good for a land barge!" I felt like King for the day.Panther said:ok, question for all the 4.9 owners.....
from a stop, when you hit the gas, it has no problem spinning the tires, right? and for about how long will it keep spinning them?
I was just wondering, as the '91 with 170k miles we test drove, we drove it like a granny car, didn't even push it at all, so I didn't get a chance to feel the power....
It seems like the only real way to increase power on the 4.9 would be to bore and stroke it, shave the heads down for more compression etc.... is there any high performance cam, or rocker arms for it etc....?
