how do several repaired issues make it a lemon? are you aware of the lemon law for your state?

Yes but it only mentions repeat problems. As long as only one thing goes wrong at a time, its not considered a lemon legally but in my book its yellow.

9 different problems in 18,000 miles but the car actually is only used 6 months out of the year, about 18 month total since new. Rest of time its parked in heated garage during winter.

So far in the last month, 3 things have gone wrong with the car. HVAC motor started squealing, this past week the trim on top of front glass came loose and makes terrible buzzing noise. I am driving around with duck tape holding it on while parts arrive and now this am there a puddle of gear lube leaking from the pinion seal on my garage floor. I was heading for Milwaukee tomorrow but now I have to take the GMC truck. The seal is leaking bad, fluid all over the underside of car, blowing back.

btw-My dealer is 100 miles away, car may have to be hauled.

The car is certainly not a cream puff!

that is what i call a botched sitch.
I really think that some CTS's were built by line workers that came to work drunk or really hungover one day. Maybe they had a union party the night prior. Most CTS's are problem free but it seems like a handful are full of problems. Unfortunately mine was one of those. My maintenance history is a good five pages plus. The good thing is that all those problems were one time only things. After the dealer took care of them, it never happened again. The only exception was the rear end. It took three rear ends to find one that didn't crap its carrier. Still love my CTS though!

This sounds just like my 05. Ive had numerous problems (battery replacement, sunroof module replacement, etc) but only the rear diff was a repeat offender. But I do work the car hard too...and the engine and 6 spd operate like new. The only way youd guess the car is 2 years old is the amount of valvetrain noise.
I've had mine in for repair about a dozen times in one year. It's been all stupid stuff that's just annoying. The rear diff has been the only repeat offender. If it leaks again I'm going to request they repair my driveway because it is a mess. I can't believe they haven't fixed this issue yet. How many reported cases do they need to build a rear diff that's worthy? I hate to say it but as much as I like my car, this is probably my first and last cts.
Everytime I call my service manager he answers with "what's wrong now"!
That's very sad!!!!!!!
I found a TSB on the problem?

PIP 3671E TSB Rear Axle Pinion Seal Leak March 8, 2007

Anyone has access to it and can post?
I'm having some difficulties with my 05. Dash lights flicker, won't start if you fuel it up all the way, coolant level light comes on, engine light came on, minor stuff like tail lights and moisture in the light lenses, radio cuts out and you can't change the station. Had an error code that read remove key or car will shut down, have NO idea what that was about. I did it, afraid if I didn't I wouldn't get it to go again. They say all the problems are caused from a remote start that was installed for 3.5 months then removed, I call bullshit that it was that. I've had the car for 7 months and they've had it in service 6 times. Good luck...I think I'm in agreeance with schambo, this is my last CTS, very disappointed in my Cadillac.
my CTS is not a lemon yet, but the bitch does leave a sour taste sometimes:vomit:
I just bought a cts-v, have had it two weeks and have many problems. Mainly the rear diff. broke it and drive shaft last Sunday, first long drive in the car. Dealer refuses to replace under warranty. Says I raced car.
Yeah my CTS-V is a lemon... It seems to go through gas REALLY quickly... I also have this problem where I get in the car, drive it... and kinda get "stuck." I just want to keep driving. Damn GM... ;)
All cars have problems. If you've ever owned one that didn't, consider yourself extremely lucky and know that if you'd bought another identical car it would not have been trouble free- the averages are against you.

The difference between a Cadillac and most other cars is that when yours breaks, they give you a car to drive, wash your car, etc, etc. Higher price doesn't buy you a mechanical miracle, but it does get you a good warranty. (Of course, this excludes people with crummy dealers, but those are the exception and not the rule).
I won't list all the issues I've had with mine as the administrators wouldn't appreciate me taking up so much space on their servers, but I will say that in the 9 months I've had the car (yes it was used, but it was also certified so the fact that I had it in the shop 2 days after I got it for a list with about 15 items on it is just unacceptable!!!) It's been in the shop AT LEAST once a month. For the number of things I've had go wrong, it actually averages out to about once a week since I got the car. It use to not be that big of a deal because I lived 2 1/2 miles from the dealer, but now it's a 45 minute drive, so I let little things go , like the panel on the rear airbags coming loose, until I have to take it in for a larger item, like the puddle of oil under the car last month. Turned out to be leaking from where the oil filter line connects to the engine.

Now I will say that the average would be a lot better if the dealership did good work. Half the times I've been in there are I have to go back again to get it fixed correctly. Last month I took it in for a leaking power steering line for the second time and when I got home I noticed a couple puddles of oil in the garage. So I took it back in the next day & they told me that it must just be residual oil from somewhere because they did their complimentary inspection and didn't see any oil leaks. After 5 days in the shop they replaces the o rings one the cams. 3 days later it was back in there for the same thing & this is when they discovered the oil filter connection. I really enjoy the car, but it's such a waste of time to have to go in there every month. Mine must have been built on a Friday afternoon or a Monday morning!

Mine might not be a lemon, but it's a citrus of some sort! A kumquat maybe.

As far as the original post here goes, that isn't even close to qualification for a "lemon".
Not that it is good, but I see vehicles with more problems than that on one ticket.
I understand it can be frustrating to have to take your car in for service.
Many times it depends on the shop you have it "fixed" at, or which tech in the shop works on it.

All cars break, not just GM cars or Cadillacs.
We don't build them at the dealerships, we just sell them and then do our best to fix them to keep you happy.

The PI for the axle mentioned earlier in this post is just a tip to make sure to clean out all the grease from immediately behind the seal so it doesn't seep when you install the new one.
If you don't, it can make it look like the new seal is leaking.

They had some parts issues a few months ago but current inventory should be updated for an improved seal on this pinion issue.
Some cars we rarely ever see, some we see all the time.
I have seen some scary stuff coming out of the factory.
I have also seen issues with companies that supply parts for our production cars. Things like radios and onboard computers are manufactured by other companies and then sold to GM. Sometimes those companies cut corners and it causes issues that GM has to figure out and then go back after the manufacturer to fix the issue.
It is a lot more complicated than calling a car a lemon because it has had a few issues.
Hopefully your dealer can get it all taken care of so you can enjoy your car.

Crap! Its not just me? You and I are having the same issues :highfive:
If it's still under warranty they have to replace it ,try another dealer or raise hell with Cadillac.

Another issue is that some people just don't get along with machinery. I've seen people with Chevy issues buy a new Ford and have even more. Then they buy a Chrysler product and hit a real creschendo. How many times do you suppose that the loudest complainer can find the root problem staring at him in the mirror? I'm not saying that's the case here but the phenomenon exists. We've all seen people that when they get in their cars it's a continuous series of lurches, grinding gears, chirping or screeching tires, and on and off the gas to where you want to get out and run. It makes you cringe and they are completely mystified by your reaction.

If it's all your dash lights flickering, I'd buy that the Remote Starter install might be the problem. If it's just the HVAC control head, take it to the dealer and ask for the software fix. (they can reflash new software to fix the problem in like 10 minutes)
