White Diamond Touch Up Paint

When I went to the dealer the other day, I asked for a bottle of touch up paint for my '07 CTS. It's White Diamond. The Service Manager said that Cadillac does not produce White Diamond touch-up paint because it's a special color that's a mixture of 3 paints and they can't get it right for touch-up paint. The color doesn't match. Is this true? I find it hard to believe that Cadillac can't put together some touch up paint for the White Diamond. They've been making this color for quite some time now.

The Service Manager did say that I can stop by their body shop and they would give me some white Diamond Paint in a small container.

I just find it hard to believe that Caddy doesn't make touch up paint for the White Diamond.

Sounds like BS to me. My dealer sent me a factory touch up bottle. I bought my car new in 06.
Unless they quit making it the guy doesn't know what he is talking about.
I've got two bottles of it which I bought (from dealer) right after I purchased my 03 CTS.
The lable reads, "GM Vehicle Care #12346585 Code 98 WA 800J Lacquer Touch-Up Paint White Diamond."
Thanks FastCTS, I `ll write this down and save it.
Buy a tube of Cotillion (plain) white for a 2007 DTS while you're there. It WILL look like crap if you try to touch up using only the Diamond touch up.

What comes in the tube is only the top "pearl" coat, but you need to lay down a base of regular white first to cover the chip, let it dry, then put a very thin coat of pearl on top to make the color match.

i just got a bottle of white diamond touch up paint from the dealer but figured i should do a lil research before giving a try

anyone else has any comments on how to use touch up paint properly???(white diamond that is)
i was just going through the directions on the bottle and it says 1) prime bare metal(with what?) 2)apply touch up paint 3)apply clearcoat after 24 hours(why 24 hours??)
anyone???
Those directions are garbage. The touch-up paint is not the same paint that is put on at the factory- it has a clearcoat mixed into it.

- Clean the chip with alcohol or mineral spirits to remove any dirt or wax

- Apply a small amount of plain white paint with a needle or toothpick- just enough to cover the chip or scratch. Don't worry about bringing it up level with the surrounding paint, as the next coat will do that.

- Let dry for an hour

- Apply a coat of the Diamond touch-up. Make sure to shake it very well first to distribute the metal flake.

That's all there is to it. Chips that are touched up tend to "suck up" the paint after a few weeks, so a second application of the Diamond might be necessary if it starts to hollow out again.

Here's a few crude illustrations:

at the cadillac dealership i go to, there is a guy that works on the lot & all he does is paint touch up. he does it on all the new cars & all the used cars they get on the lot. he's really good. if i ever have any rock chips or anything i just bring it by, drop it for an afternoon and he'll touch it up for like $40 bucks. its real professional looking.

he even does it on the brand new cars if they get chiped or scratched when they are on their way to being delivered.

a lot of different lots have a similar person that does touch up work as well...

(me personally, would never try to fu*k around and put paint on my car)
i`d never F around with 22"s :)
i'd never F! w/ anything smaller! :)
haha good one!
Your dealer isn't totally crazy. It is nearly impossible to match the white diamond paint because it is a three coat process. Base, White, Diamond (Pearl). That's what gives it the deep multi-colored look. It won't look perfect, but the advice everyone has given you is pretty good. Especially the toothpick/pin applicator. If you want it done to match you have to repaint the whole panel... and most likely the panels next to it, and the panels next to that... and the whole car. It's a biatch to match, but it looks great. Just ask anybody who has had their white diamond in an accident. (Not me, knock on wood)
That is very good to know, since I was going to start touching up my nicks on my 04 pearl

just to update you on my touch up job...well wat can i say:bigroll: from the distance it looks good but at close inspection u can tell where the chips were.. my advice is, save money and repaint your vehicle rather then wasting your money on touch up paint that looks like a$$
