Hey guys I was wondering which grade oil is recommended for a 89 Brougham w/ 5.0 (Olds 307 4bbl carb)? On the oil filler I see it says 5w30, but I called the Cadillac dealer and my service advisor said I could use 10w30?? Which is reccomended and which is best???
Also, to double check this car takes 5 quarts of oil right? (That's what my Chilton said).

Thanks guys.

I have been running 15W40 Rotella T (just recently 5W40 Rotella T) in my 1994 LT1 Fleetwood Brougham with no issues whatsoever.

In comparissons with 5W30, 10W30, 15W40 and now 5W40, there has been NO fuel economy differences between them. Note I drive the same route daily, and maintain similar driving conditions, so I feel I do have a good idea on what affects mileage.

In long term (20K+ miles), I don't see any real benefit of synthetic, petroleum or lightweight oils (such as 5W20, 5W30, 0W30, etc) for fuel economy, that is, if you care....

I use Valvoline High Mileage 10-W-30. That stuff is great, my engine actually runs smoother when I use that stuff. I highly reccomend it.
