Is it better to check the oil stick in the morning while the engine is cold or when it's warmer? Or any difference at all?

Re: When to check the oil stick

Any time the engine has been off for more than 5 minutes, level ground. Engine oil level differences, hot or cold, are almost unmeasurable.

Here's your proper oil level ...............Read P.3 of the sticky post in Engines; Northstar - "Northstar piston ring cleaning". There is a statement there from GM/Cadillac on proper oil fill procedure.
