I have a 2001 Cadillac DTS. About 3 months ago i put the 2006 chrome Dts wheel and vogue tires on my car. Lastnite some1 stole my wheels and put cinder blocks under the rotors. I called the police & then called geico to file a claim. Iam a lil nervous because ive heard how ins companies try to jerk people around when it comes to settling a claim. I was told by a friend that if i didnt inform them that i upgraded the wheels to the 06 its wheels with vogues they might try to not honor my claim. & that by my car being left on cinder blocks its a good chance that the rotors & drums are damaged. This is my 1st claim ever with geico in 20 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

They will prob pay replacement costs for stockers unless you have receipts/pics etc. Some ins companies require to be notified with aftermarket rims and the like to be added to policy. Best of luck with them. As a side note, time for some wheel locks.

Theft has nothing to do with it. The car wasn't stolen. Comp would cover the loss, but without receipts they will most likely only pay for what it came with from the factory (minus your deductible).

Wow, that was one long, run on sentence SG.

No receipts got the wheels from a private owner.
--------------------
No receipts
that's going to be a problem -

from the insurance company's point of view -
"prove to me you had something other than the stock wheels/tires on the car"

and "prove to me you paid as much as you claim to have paid - receipts" -

typically - they will go off the option codes of the VIN -
and will credit you with what came on the car - size and type of wheels and tires -

here is where it gets sticky - and could work either for or against you -

IF they are willing to give you the cost of 4 BRAND NEW chrome 2001 DTS wheels -
don't forget the center caps - lug nuts - and valve stems - about $530 total each -
and pay for 4 new tires - let's say $500 -
you may actually come out ahead - $2600 - less your deductible -

do your homework - find out exactly what wheels came on your car -
get RETAIL prices for the original wheels from the dealer -
along with center caps/lug nuts/ valves -
oh - don't forget the TPMS if the car came with it -

on the other hand -
they might insist on - and only give you credit for good used wheels -

the more information YOU have -
the less they are going to argue -
because you have the facts -

good luck

Thanks basscatt, i do have a couple of pictures of my car with the 06 rims & vogues on the car. I also called capital cadillac & was told just for the chrome PA2 rims, center caps & tire pressure sensors It'll be 3,416. & that's not even with the cost of the vogues, that's another $1200 I paid $800 for the rims vogues & tire pressure sensors, the rims and tires were in mint condition, my pictures show this.

You gotta understand his home location in relation to Prince George's County and Washington, DC - the highest crime rates in the MD/VA/DC triangle. ANY car broken down and left on the DC beltway to get to a wrecker service and the tags are GONE in less than 10 minutes. GEICO is home based in DC (or close by in MD) and this sort of thing is not new to them.

don't forget the chrome lug nuts - $4 each -

call another Caddy dealer - and get their price -
you will need all the ammo you can get - YOU need to be the INFORMED CONSUMER -

but don't go overboard - THEY MIGHT TOTAL IT - :suspense:

I think, what im going to do is tell the ins. Company that the wheels were on the car when i purchased it & that they were in brand new condition. I also think that my rotors and drums may be damaged from sitting on those cinder blocks

Chance are they're going to pay you for used wheels and whatever the car came with. Unless it has super low miles they just see it as a 12 year old car. If you push for new they might end up writing it off. I hope it turns good in the end and they are easy to deal with!
