A front wheel bearing on my 02 Deville has developed quite a growl. I plan on replacing the Hub assembly with a Timken 513179 this weekend. It's difficult to tell if it's coming from the left or right and I don't really want to replace the wrong hub.

When I do quick "S" turns the growl goes away when I turn to the left... so I'm thinking the driver's side bearing is the culprit. Is my thinking correct?

I need to replace a wheel hub as well. Did you go with the Timken 513179?
Yes, Timken makes a quality hub for a decent price. It was about $90 delivered from Rockauto. If your going to keep the car don't cheap out with a Chinese hub unless you want to change it again. Go with Timken or AC Delco.

Make sure you use a torque wrench (118 ft lbs) on the 34mm axle nut. Torque is critical... over or under torque will cause premature failure. Both a 34mm socket and torque wrench are available for free at Advance or Autozone under the loan-a-tool program.
