On my 77 coupe I just got running a couple days ago there is a little orange/yellow dot on the dummy light bar that comes on if you dont keep the throttle on, does anyone know what this is?

Sounds like the fuel economy indicator light thing... The orange should come on when you're using a lot of gas, like flooring it or going up a hill, etc.

If I remember correctly, isn't there also a green light that comes on when the fuel economy is good, such as coasting down a hill?

I've read there should also be a green light. But apparently there isn't one on this car, and I know my 78 never had the green one (could be that the orange one was on ALL the time I guess, but I didn't see the spot for one.)

hmmm. well what would cause the orange light to come on when trying to get the car to idle?

Weird. My '89 Brougham has the sockets where the lights would go, the little orange and green dots in the idiot light bar...of course there are no lights in the sockets because it's a feature not included...wonder why they're there? Was that an option or something?
