I was driving along yesterday and looked down at the speedometer and saw that it went to 160MPH. Yeah... right:histeric:

But then I thought... What is the top speed of this car? The car has surprised me in so many other ways, who knows?

I know I'm too chicken (and too old) to find out for myself, but I bet some of the hod rodders here already know the answer to this question. (Note: I did a search first before posting) I figure that the computer has limits set by the factory, so that's one top speed. But, there are probably some here who look at that as only a minor impediment to their research.

There is also one major reason why it says 160. Because that same set of numbers does both English and metric reading. Lets say you were doing 100mph, then changed then setting to metric. That needle will then spike up to 130 to 135. Some where around there.

Have you ever notice for many years there were two sets of numbers for speed? Well gm started to put only one set and have the user program which one they wanted. Now you know the answer. :)

I know it can hit 160

WRONG.

Top cut off for a sport CTS is 148. This is computer limited. Top cut off for a non sport is like 115 or 130 or something. Even without this cutoff I seriously doubt a V6 CTS could do much more than 148.

I used to have an 03 with a 3.2L. I had this one up to 140.

I have had my 04 with 3.6L up to 145.

if you're doing 100mph and then switch to kms, it will spike up to 160.

100mph = 162 km/h

thats why I prefere canadian version.. it goes up to 260!

last week, I drove in town and the speedometer was in mph.. the needle barely moved.. it was so boring! I prefer km/h :D

A CTS-v, with 245/45R18's, stock 3.73 rear end, in 5th gear (0.84:1) at redline, tops out at 165 mph, if you do the math. It takes all of it's 400 HP to get there. Drag goes up exponentially with speed, and so does the HP requirement to overcome it.

The CTS is computer limited, due to the stock tire speed ratings. The sport models were limited to 146 mph, and the luxury models at 120. The 3.6l motor only puts out 255 HP stock. The 3.2 is 220 HP stock.

For the car in the video, Lund Cadillac put a big turbo on a near stock 3.2 CTS, added a new engine computer, and topped out at 217 MPH. The engine was putting out near 1100 HP, apparently. Obviously, they had to re-gear the car. I'm guessing the rear end was under 3.0:1, and the engine redlining around 7000 RPM.

I have an '05 CTS with the 3.6. Nothing fancy done to it, just a K&N intake. I had it up to 125 before the speed limiter kicked in. I'm actually looking to buy the HP Tuner VCM Suite to do some tuning. I want to see how much power I can get out of it without doing any physical work to the engine.

Big 3 in Waukesha WI got an additional 18hp and 18 ft lbs out of mine with HP tuners.
