what's the difference between the 2000-2005 cadillac deville and the 2000-2005 cadillac dhs

Differences - trim level, option packages. Sort of like the old model progression from Chevy Biscayne to BelAir to Impala.

The RPO sticker will tell you which options are built into THAT car.

I was initially assuming you were asking about the base vs dhs trim. Just to be clear a DHS is a DeVille as is a 2000-2005 DTS. That run of DeVilles had three trim levels: base, DHS, DTS. Going forward the 2006 & up DTS does not have the DeVille name.

From the beginnings of the FWD Northstar series -

Up until 2006 -
Deville - base
DHS - Deville High luxury Sedan - maybe a d'Elegance or Concours option was possible
DTS - Deville Touring Sedan
The 2006 and later "DTS" is the entire model name - it is not a Deville, thus the separate forum.

Up to 2004 -
Seville was Seville Luxury Sedan or Seville Touring Sedan. All Seville production ceased in 12/03. The later "STS" is not a Seville, thus the separate forum.

Up to the end of the 2002 model year - (about June of 2002)
Eldorado was Eldorado Sport Coupe, Eldorado Touring Sedan, and the last 1576 Touring Sedans were the ECS option - Eldorado Collector's Series.

It stands for nothing - the Deville model line was dropped in 2005. "DTS" was then the entire car/model name - it's not an acronym for (the top of the line) Deville Touring Sedan any more. You could buy a "DTS" in several different powertrain and trim packages.

Thus the different forums for Deville and DTS - two different cars. Same for Seville and STS.

Click the "read more" tab at the bottom of the first paragraph. Google searches turn up more of the same.

=======================
NOPE!
we KNOW our cars -

D means deville either touring (T) or Luxury (L)
D USED to represent DEVILLE through 2005 -
no such thing as a DLS -
DTS = Deville Touring Sedan
DHS = Deville High luxury Sedan
DEVILLE was retired AFTER 2005 -
the 2006+ DTS is just a DTS - PERIOD!

S in SLS/ STS means seville luxury or touring sedan
S USED to represent SEVILLE through 2004 -
SEVILLE was retired AFTER 2004 -
the 2005 STS has absolutely NOTHING to do with a SEVILLE - PERIOD!

C in CTS was carry over from Catera and is Catera touring sedan
the CATERA was an imported OPEL OMEGA with Cadillac emblems -
the CTS has NOTHING to do with the CATERA

E in ETC/ELC means eldorado touring or luxury coupe
LASTLY - there NO SUCH THING as an ELC -
the ELDORADO models were ETC and ESC -
Eldorado Touring Coupe
Eldorado Sport Coupe

welcome to the forum

.......was Catera Touring Sedan as evidenced by some early bumper cover polyvinyl parts labelled as such. "CTS" took over as the entire vehicle name in about 2003 or so - Catera ended its model run in late 2001.

"The Cadillac Catera is a four-door, five passenger, rear-wheel drive luxury sedan marketed from 1996 until 2001 by Cadillac over a single generation in the United States and Canada.[1] As a rebadged variant of the Opel Omega B, the Catera was manufactured by Opel in RĂĽsselsheim, Germany, and was underpinned by GM's V-body platform. Approximately 95,000 units were built and sold over five model years."

Yep - when "Deville" died at the end of the 2005 model year in June of 2005 the "DTS" name took over and it means nothing - "DTS" is the name of the succeeding car model. It's NOT an acronym and there are several trim levels within the "DTS" line.
