What is the best short shifter to get for my 05 v. I want to order one ASAP. I have heard UUC was the best but over priced. I saw that Lyndsay Cadillac in VA has them, and they are priced at 400 bucks. Are there any others out there that share the quality for less $$??

Can you tell me why you hated the UUC so much. From my research i heard they were the best. I am just trying to get further opinions before I purchase.

Im thinking i may order this Ralco shifter. Do i need new bushing when i order this?

It always had side to side slop, didn't reduce the throw enough, transmitted noise/vibration, after 6 months the bearings that they use instead of bushings were seized up and the knob height was increased. I finally got fed up one day and modified my stock one.

I've been on the V forums for 5 years and have never heard the UUC one called the best. If you search long enough there are threads on this forum that compare the top ones. There is even a spreadsheet with all the comparisons in one place. These comparisons are from people who have either had multiple brands in their vehicle or have tried others at different V get togethers.

UUC is not the best, imo. I didn't like the one that I had in my Audi A4 and no one else did either -- I too basically gave it away for another brand...even with their bearing kit, it was horrible.

I have a B&M in my V and its a vast improvement over stock, but good luck finding one as they don't make them anymore and old stock appears to be gone. I bought one of if not the last one that Atlantic Speed had on its shelf back in the Christmas time of 2010.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I will be buying the Ralco. I see them here on ebay through that link above for $199.00.

PISNUOFF- Is there any difference between the RalcoRZ link above that jmargo posted and the one that you have for sale. Because I keep everything stock from my car in case I ever want it back.

The Hurst shifter for a GEN-V Camaro can be made to work. I'll probably go this route, don't know what I have in my car is it came with it, but it is very numb...to the point that it almost feels like a short throw cavalier shifter. Weird. I like the positive feel and the noise that comes with...just me.

Brian - how much for your bushing kit for the shifter linkage? IIRC you had custom bronze bushings made...is this true and are they still available?

I would make sure you contact them and verify they corrected the problems to their prototype before you lay down any money.

I have a uuc shifter in my wife's silver car. I have a modified stock one in my car. If pisnuoff would have been around when i changed them i would have bought his. I modified the stock one according to the faq at the time. If ( and i think it would be ) pisnuoff's shifter is like he says it is i would MOST definitely buy his. Hell im thinking of switching the uuc one out. Dont waste your money on the uuc or any that are copies of it.

The Ralco looks to be the same style as a UUC. Here is some research for you. The links below were going on when I first started modifying shifters. Do some more searching on this forum and you will find a ton more information on shifters. Since then I have modified over 150 shifters and have refined my design and method of reattachment. I also replace the stock bushings with redesigned, tighter fitting, longer lasting ones that reduce the slop significantly.

I have one set available right now. They are for the trans end of the center linkage bar and require removal of the trans to install. $50 for the set. I sell my replacement bushings for the base of the shifter for $75 a set.
