None. They all had the early Northstar engines that like to blow headgaskets, which is a $4000 repair job and maybe more if the entire engine must be replaced. Go with a base '95 DeVille. It has the 4.9 which is dead nuts reliable.

Depending on your personal tastes, the 96 had the northstar and the rear skirts over the rear wheels, 97 and up had no wheel skirts, personally I do not like the skirts, the open wells look much better especially with blackwall tires. 95 and earlier did have the nice 4.9 and the not so nice 4T60E, I wonder if anybody has tried to mate the 4t65-E HD from the Grandprix GTP with a 4.9 but that would be a ideal combo.

From 1996 to 1999 what deville was the best?
Perhaps you should have asked the years 1994-1999.The '94-'95 had the reliable 4.9 liter engine--'96-'99 had the Northstar engine. As mentioned, the 1994-1996 had the skirted look over the rear tires and squared wheelweells---a classier look. The 1997-1999 had the round, open wheelwells all around---a sportier look.
As far as which is the best?----that`s to one`s own opinion.I know for sure there were many more problems with the early Northstar engines. The workhorse, reliable 4.9 liter engine was the absolute best of the 4.x series engines.

The thing I hate about all the 94-99s is their fat back end.

Which almost isn't even worth it, because you can get a crate 350 for $2500
You cannot simply drop a crate 350 into a originally Northstar powered car. The car is so electrically intertwined that removing the engine would screw over the rest of the car. I have never seen it done because it takes A LOT of time, effort and head scratching.

I think the best year has got to be the 1988 Cadillac Deville
Fleetwood with pincushion seats and real wood trim FTW!

^ Listen to this man, for he speaks no lie. '93's are win in its purest form.
Very true.

Yeah, I guess that's a downside to newer cars.

I want my '95 back. Don't get me wrong, the '93s do look great, but it is nowhere near the '95 in terms of ride quality, interior cabin noise and driving ease. I would take either a base or a Concours.

Oh boy do I miss that classic analog red gear indicator marker!! I remember as a little boy in my parents caddy always looking at it and thinking "Why does it never look centered on each letter of each gear??"

Too young just to realize definition of crappy engineering! =)

Memories.. nothing more than, Memories!!!

Yeah, it pisses me off too. I have had it apart a few times to try and adjust it but then I gave up.

I have the 94 deville, and it's alsome. I love it almost more than my 86 Fleetwood Brougham. The 94 deville has all the room I need, needless to say about all the new cads; they're made for little people. I thought I've posted to a thread like this before? Shoot, I still say 94 deville looks and rides great in my opinion.

For all those years the only real difference is the 96 looks different then the rest. And since everyone is throwing other years into the mix I like my 1994 the best because out of those front wheel drive ones I wouldnt want a northstar and I like the newer ones better then the 1993 and older ones.
